Middle School Long Term Instrumental Music Substitute Teacher

This is a Full-time position in Washington, DC posted November 23, 2021.

Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school in Washington, DC, seeks a long-term substitute for Instrumental Music for its Middle School division beginning Monday, January 24, 2021.

The position will be for 8 weeks and ends on Thursday, March 17.
The long-term substitute for Instrumental Music will teach instrumental and general music classes for middle school students, in grades 5-8.

Specific responsibilities of the position include: teaching instrumental and general music classes in grades 5-8; working with elective 5-6 and 7-8 performance ensembles once a week each; keeping progress notes for the regular teacher to use in their reports; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at relevant meetings; and collaboration with Arts colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions.

The successful candidate will be excited about working with Middle School students, possess excellent communication and organizational skills, and have experience with all elements of music instruction.
A Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education is required.

A Master’s degree (or higher) is preferred, as is 3-5 years of experience teaching general and / or instrumental music in a school setting, preferably at the middle school level.

The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms and proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting.

This position requires teaching in person.

As a condition of employment, all employees hired after August 1, 2021 are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and able to provide proof of such vaccination.
