Maimonides Jewish Day School is an accredited, kindergarten through 8th-grade school committed to teaching the whole child, inspiring lifelong learning, and providing personalized, meaningful, and empowering Judaic and General Studies education for a diverse community of Jewish children.Located in Southwest Portland, Oregon, Maimonides is known for its commitment to a student to teacher ratio to facilitate individualized and differentiated instruction; ensuring that learning is real-world and personally meaningful; and knowing every childto bring out the best within them.Maimonides has an opening for a half day (12pm-4pm) teaching position in a project-approached, Montessori-inspired, combined Upper Elementary [3rd-5th Grade] classroom.
The average class size is less than 15 students.*Scope: * The teacher is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
The teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program that ensures that all students learn the basic and essential skills at each grade level in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic, intellectual, social and emotional development potential in the classroom and in a variety of other school-related settings.
Work is performed under the supervision of the principal.*RESPONSIBILITIES*To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:*Assume responsibility for the instructional process in assigned classroom and grade level.
** Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.* Develop lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.* Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.* Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.* Prepare classroom for class activities.* Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.* Develop curriculum as directed.* Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction*Manage classroom environment.** Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.* Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.* Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom.*Evaluate accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods** Provide appropriate feedback on student work.* Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.* Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development.* Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by law, district policies and school regulations.* Prepare required reports on students and activities.* Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development.* Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.*Other functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: **Maintain appropriate work habits** Participate in department, school, and parent meetings.* Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.* Collaborate with other teachers.* Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.* Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails* Participate in extracurricular activities, such as social activities, as directed.*Continue professional development** Participate in appropriate professional activities.* Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge*Other** Observe and understand students’ behavior and psyche and report suspicions of neglect, abuse etc.* Behave in a manner that fulfills, honors, and embodies the mission, core values, and policies of our school.* Other duties as assigned.*Knowledge Skills and Ability Required: *The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
