DC West, a growing Class C-1 school district located on the western edge of Omaha, is now accepting applications for the following position:* 6th Grade (Middle School) TeacherPerformance Responsibilities* Teach assigned classes and perform related duties as set forth under Job Tasks.* Provide for the reasonable care and safety of students under the teacher s supervision.* Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.* Provide reasonable care for students, including reporting suspected child abuse or neglect to supervisor and provide medication administration as assigned.* Participate in team meetings for the development of IEPs and 504 Plans and implement provisions of IEPs and 504 Plan accommodations for the teacher s students.* Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of activities as assigned.* Participate in professional activities and staff development as assigned and as needed to maintain professional competence and to perform duties.* Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students and parents.* Develop and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with other staff and administration.* Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.* Provide for proper care, maintenance and reasonable security of all District property in the teacher s custody.* Utilize instructional materials and other resources in a competent and effective manner, including computer, e-mail, electronic student information systems, and other technology to perform assigned duties.* Adhere to all district policies, rules, regulations, and supervisor directives.* Adhere to the code of ethics of the District and the code of ethics set forth in NDE Rule 27.
The teacher must serve as a positive role model for other staff and students.* Perform other tasks as assigned.Job Tasks* Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.* Observe and evaluate students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.* Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems.* Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.* Perform supervision duties such as assisting in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading.* Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.* Prepare objectives and outlines for courses of study, following curriculum guidelines or requirements of the State and the school district.* Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisors.* Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.* Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.* Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.* Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.* Assign and grade class work and homework.* Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.* Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.* Guide and counsel students with adjustment or academic problems, or special academic interests.* Prepare and implement remedial programs for students requiring extra help.* Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.* Use computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.* Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.* Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, and storytelling.* Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities.* Administer standardized ability and achievement tests and interpret results to determine student strengths and areas of need.* Supervise, evaluate, and plan assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers.* Confer with other staff members to plan and schedule lessons promoting learning, following approved curricula.* Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs.* Meet with other professionals to discuss individual students’ needs and progress.* Collaborate with other teachers and administrators in the development, evaluation, and revision of elementary school programs.* Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops to maintain and improve professional competence.* Attend staff meetings and serve on committees, as required.* Involve parent volunteers and older students in children’s activities to facilitate involvement in focused, complex play.* Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.* Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.* Organize and label materials and display students’ work.* Select, store, order, issue, and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies.Working Conditions* Inside offices and classrooms.* Outside for activities with students and student supervision.FLSA Status: Exempt.Professional exemption: The employee has a primary duty of performing work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction and study or has a primary duty of teaching, tutoring, instructing, or lecturing in the activity of imparting knowledge and is employed and engaged in this activity as a teacher.EOERecblid fw8t2ndy8xyikg24r5zsutru77vvybAssociated topics: accountant, accountant ii, accountant iii, admin secretary, administrative assistant i, administrative assistant ii, analyst ii, business support, secretary, support specialist
