The Opportunity As a member of the People & Culture (“P&C”) team, the Employee Relations Business Partner (“ER”) will be responsible for providing ER expertise and services, including: leading workplace investigations, policy development and interpretation, performance management, medical accommodations, workplace training, case data analytics, and other projects as assigned.
The position requires the ability to navigate complex employment and ER matters and to develop sound, balanced, and thorough solutions aligned with our values.
Successful candidates must be able to work with minimal supervision, exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills, handle complex and sensitive employment situations, and demonstrate strong relationship building skills to interact with employees at all levels who have a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, and internal/external counsel.
This position is based in Raritan, NJ.
The Responsibilities Partner with P&C team to create and sustain positive employee relations and best practices Manage employment investigations for complex investigations and provide consultation to P&C Business partners around other formal ER procedures
– addressing performance issues, discipline, grievances, workplace accommodation requests, managing protected leaves, etc.
Provide written investigation summaries and draft responses and submissions to formal EEOC charges and attorney letters.
Administrator for the ethics hotline and reporting metrics.
Coordination and facilitate investigations, training and other ER learning and development initiatives to deliver best practice tools and knowledge to the P&C team.
Provide thought leadership on fostering a high performance culture, including review of and updates to Performance Improvement process (PIP) and associated supporting PIP plan materials.
Advise and coach People & Culture Business Partners through the PIP process.
Preparation and training on template toolbox materials (workplace accommodation requests, corrective action letters, leaves, etc.) In partnership with P&C, conduct assessments that identify root cause of employee relations issues and provide recommendations to improve employee relations.
Conduct periodic reviews of P&C related policies and provide improvement recommendations.
Design, develop, and deliver in-person and on-line training to managers and supervisors on Ortho’s employment-related policies and implications of non-compliance.
The Individual Minimum 7 years of experience supporting Employee Relations efforts Bachelor’s degree required.
Track record of influencing and providing consultative guidance around complex organizational issues.
Extensive experience conducting and managing corporate investigations of complex and confidential workplace complaints.
Be a team player with a flexible, adaptable and results-oriented approach.
Ability to work independently and in a group setting.
Experience in designing, developing, and delivering training on a variety of employment issues including the use of Articulate Storyline or equivalent platform to design/develop interactive e-learning training programs for managers and employees Demonstrated and sophisticated ability to independently identify and analyze issues and problems and to develop and influence appropriate business solutions and plans of action.
Ability to run analytical reports and leverage data to identify and diagnose root cause elements Strong project management, oral communication, and interpersonal skills Fluid and persuasive technical writing skills Ability to handle highly sensitive information with absolute confidentiality and professionalism.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated adaptability to changing business conditions and needs.
Ability to multitask, prioritize and deal with ambiguity Expert level applied knowledge of employee relations issues (including performance management), risk management practices, investigative practices, and employment law.
Masters in HR, Juris Doctor, or other specialized training in labor/employee relations preferred Experience managing employee relations in union and non-union environments preferred EOE/AA Disability/Veteran LI-SC1
