Job briefWe are looking for an ambitiousPrep Cookto work in a brand-new restaurant, assist in the preparation of authentic, Texas Roadside Barbecue. You will perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, and following exact instruction, so that food can be prepared according to recipes.A great prep cook will be quick and diligent and willing to improve on the job. You will be able and willing to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. The ideal candidate will also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy environment as a part of a team.Prep Cook Job Responsibilities:Perform routine kitchen tasks.Follow the prep list created to plan duties.Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible.Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking.Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep.Set up workstations and ingredients so that food can be prepared according to recipes.Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces and sauteing food.Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cookingProper handling of meatsDaily/weekly cleaning of smokerPrepare simple dishes, such as salads and entrees.Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, washing and sanitizing surfaces, and taking out trash.Ensure that all food and other items are stored properly.Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines.Perform other kitchen duties as assigned.RequirementsProven experience asprep cookKnowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchenManual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensilsA team player with good communication skillsPatient with an ability to stay positive under pressureVery good physical condition and enduranceHigh school diploma or equivalent is desirableTraining from a culinary school will be an assetWork Hours & Benefits:Shift work required1st shift 4 AM to 12:30 PM2nd shift 8 AM – 4:30 PM3rd shift 1 PM to 9:30 PM2 fifteen minute breaks per shift + 30 minutes for lunch (off peak times)Weekend shifts required (same shifts as above)Restaurant is closed 2 weeks a year for vacation and deep cleaningIf you choose to be a part of the cleaning team you will receive a bonusPrep Cook Qualifications / Skills:Knowledge of health and safety rules in a kitchenKnowledge of basic cooking techniquesOrganizational skillsPatienceManual dexterityCommunication skillsAttention to detailAbility to work under pressureVery good physical condition and endurance Education and Experience Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent is desirableTraining from a culinary school is an assetProven experience as a prep cook
