Kitchen Steward

Hotel Monteleone

This is a Full-time position in New Orleans, LA posted December 3, 2021.

Summary

A Steward’s primary objective is to provide a clean and safe kitchen area for our staff.

A Steward must wash and clean tableware, pots, pans and cooking equipment.

In addition, the Steward must keep the dish room and equipment clean and organized.

Essential Functions

To perform the Steward position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Assume 100% responsibility for the cleanliness of dishware

· Load, run and unload dish machine

· Keep the dish machine clean and report any functional or mechanical problems to the kitchen manager immediately

· Monitor dish machine water temperature and chemical levels to ensure sanitary wash cycle

· Wash and store all tableware and kitchenware

· Keep dish room clean and organized

· Complete opening and closing checklists

· Maintain adequate levels of clean tableware for dining room and kitchen

· Bag and haul kitchen trash to dumpster

· Handle tableware carefully to prevent breakage and loss

· Maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies

· Clean food preparation and production areas as required

· Close Kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for Kitchen stations; assists others in closing the kitchen

· Attend all scheduled associate meetings and bring suggestions for improvement

· Perform other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required for an individual to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the Steward position:

Language Ability

Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

Write simple correspondence

Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other associates of the organization
Math Ability

· Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals

Work Environment

· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

· Duties and responsibilities may require work to be performed in a fast‑paced kitchen setting

· Frequent exposure to various environments and room temperatures including heat, cold and steam

Physical Demands

· Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

· Regularly talk or hear

· Frequently stand, use hands to fingers, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms

· Occasionally walk

· Stamina to work in a fast-paced Kitchen and environments with constant exposure to different room temperatures

· Safely navigate multiple flights of stairs

Position Status and Availability

· Work a full-time, flexible (AM or PM) shift, Monday ‑ Sunday including holidays

Education and Experience

· At least one (1) year of customer service experience

· At least one (1) year of previous experience as a Steward
