Youth Engagement Specialist – Residential

This is a Contract position in Minneapolis-Saint-Paul, MN posted November 14, 2021.

Rebound, Inc. is a growing non-profit dedicated to leading the way in the innovation and provision of holistic, community centered, education, advocacy, and rehabilitation solutions to the overrepresentation of black youth in the juvenile justice system. Rebound has three group residential home for 14-18+ year olds in the juvenile justice system or social services systems.

POSITION: Youth Engagement Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Residential group home services provides to up to 6 young people per house between the ages of 14 and 18+ and delivers holistic programming and services 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Youth Engagement Specialists promote a safe and welcoming environment for all youth and their families. YES must believe that all young people can be successful and support youth even when their behaviors are challenging.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree*

*Two years of experience providing direct services to youth, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in youth development, social work, psychology or other related fields.

Required license(s):

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required
  • First Aid/CPR certificate within 6 months of hire.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position’s management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

  • Engage youth while in the house and during recreational activities in the community.
  • Provide support by being consistent with the house schedule, rules, and expectations.
  • Role model positive interactions with youth.
  • Facilitate psychosocial groups, bringing ideas for new topics.
  • Work collaboratively to identify, support, and document progress toward youth’s goals.
  • Complete house and office support tasks including preparing meals, groups, and outings.
  • Support youth’s case plan goals.
  • Ensure clear, accurate, and timely documentation.
  • Provide de-escalation and crisis support as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Knowledge of human development, family dynamics and systems, including crisis management and cultural competency.
  • Knowledge of community resources and funding sources.
  • Knowledge of medical diagnoses, medications, and basic medical terminology, as well as medical insurance processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of statutes, rules, and policies pertaining to social work and the ability to research the same.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer software and information systems.
  • Interviewing, negotiation, and listening skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of evidence based practices including assessment, case planning, and cognitive interventions.
  • Knowledge of criminal behavior and/or juvenile delinquency.
  • Knowledge of basic psychology.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system in Minnesota; working knowledge of the functions of its component parts.
  • Ability to make decisions under stress, while abiding by Departmental and State policies and guidelines.
  • Considerable ability to work effectively with the public, department and County associates in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a team to accomplish tasks, plan and resolve problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply departmental policies and procedures to assigned duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Youth Engagement Workers are expected to work on site as well as in the community with youth. Morning, Afternoon/Evening, and (awake) Overnight shifts may be available.

COMPENSATION : $18.00 – $20.00 per hour DOQ
