nn Company is looking for a freelance Senior Vice President
– Media Relations.

Based in Detroit, we are looking for leaders with expert understanding of how earned media intersects with paid, owned and influencer disciplines, as they will develop and guide media relations strategies within the context of integrated communications campaigns spanning corporate and automotive clients.nn nnWith an inquisitive and analytical nature, the ideal candidate will boast established relationships with top-tier media across a variety of outlets and industries.

They will have experience developing and deploying complex strategic plans and guiding the work of junior team members.

The ideal candidate will also have experience in issues management and working with C-Suite clients.nn nn PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES nn Be an early adopter of new media trends, platforms and practices; promote learnings to our entire organization and instill best practices with our earned media specialists Understand client business goals and target audiences to craft multi-platform communications plans that leverage the most effective media players and personalities, and deliver on key program metrics Translate communications strategy into relevant, timely and engaging story narratives, working closely with the Content team to ensure creative ideas will breakthrough with media Supervise the development of content (key messages, pitches, alerts, releases, social copy, etc.) that positively positions clients and educates media on a client’s point of view Provide issues management support Become a “trusted advisor” to senior clients Collaborate with digital, social and influencer counterparts internally and on the client side to ensure earned results carry through integrated programming Understand the role and power of paid media to accelerate earned media campaigns, working with paid media teams to amplify content Identify news cycles, cultural shifts, industry trends and issues that affect clients, distilling meaningful insights and inserting clients’ narratives in targeted, relevant and insightful ways when appropriate Proactively support and suggest improvements and new ideas to exceed client expectations by leveraging industry knowledge, network and experience Pitch in to help generate coverage in top-tier media outlets for priority client needs Contribute to the career growth of junior team members, serving as mentor and role model Demonstrate financial acumen in the areas of budgeting and staffing, managing ongoing resourcing of the earned media team to ensure successful delivery of work product Participate in agency development and new business nn BASIC REQUIREMENTS nn 12+ years of relevant experience in PR (agency or corporate in-house), journalism or media property Experience working in automotive public relations Significant experience providing thought leadership and counsel to senior management Depth in stakeholder mapping and building earned media campaigns to reach them in engaging ways Trusted, personal relationships with influential media and journalists Journalistic instincts and skills in uncovering and developing stories Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills that are clear, concise and direct Work well collaborating across various teams and talent communities Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree nn ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS nn Strong decision-making skills People management and development of high-performing teams Experience with clients that are measurement and evaluation driven Strong presentation skills, poise and professionalism Ability to multi-task and perform in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment Resourceful, entrepreneurial and inclusive
