Sr. Mortgage Underwriter

Nuvision Federal Credit Union

This is a Contract position in Huntington Beach, CA posted March 16, 2021.

Evaluates residential loan applications and supporting documentation of income, assets, credit and property (1-4 family) to determine program eligibility. Underwrites loan and grants credit approval. Review files for completeness and identifies critical missing information. Evaluates the degree and seriousness of data discrepancies and analyzes loan structure to ensure loan complies with investor guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes loan file and renders loan approval within Credit Approval limits. Calculates and verifies member’s income, analyzes credit, assets and liabilities. Reviews credit and all conditions as they are submitted for validation including paystubs, W2’s, preliminary title report, 4506 T’s and any other required documentation. Acts as liaison with members, real estate agents/brokers, title companies, loan consultants and co-workers to facilitate a prompt, efficient closing of each loan. Underwrites third party appraisal for accuracy. Using established guidelines diagnoses loan package situations and proceeds accordingly. Enters all information into LOS system/DU with accuracy and accountability. Documents loans to ensure compliance with regulatory and legal requirements.
  • Maintains pipeline in Prime Alliance
  • Follows up and assists on all FNMA audit files and internal audit files. Researches and resolves any issues, completes documentation and audit responses, and gets files ready to be sent to FNMA.
  • Based on decisions from the Credit Committee; underwrites, evaluates, and assists with the processing of all Member Solutions Dept. Workout loans.
  • Performs HMDA disposition of canceled and declined loans in compliance with Regulation B requirements.
  • Evaluates current Mortgage procedures, recommends changes and implements new procedures when appropriate
  • Assists in the review of Subordinations. Verifying value equity and Credit Union position.
  • Mentor/train employees as needed on condition review, and all Mortgage related systems.
  • Reviews and comprehends Mortgage Lending and operating standards as well as Fannie Mae Seller’s & Servicers Guide.
  • Supports and participates in continuous improvement activities.
  • Represents the credit union in a positive and professional manner.
  • Maintains member and sensitive information with confidentiality.
  • Treats co-workers and members with respect.
  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum three years mortgage underwriting experience.
  • Knowledge of FNMA and FHLMC underwriting and secondary marketing guidelines.
  • Knowledge of automated origination and underwriting technology.
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance guidelines.
  • General knowledge of loan processing and closing guidelines.
  • A proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel and Mortgage processing system.
  • Analyze and solve problems
