This position is responsible for analyzing and classifying risk for life insurance applications, in accordance with established underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures.
The 37.5 hour/week work schedule will be Monday through Friday between the core hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with the ability to work remotely.
Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Review cases up to $3,000,000 and has approval authority up to $2,000,000.
- Develop and maintain structured schedule, with adherence to meeting/exceeding all productivity, quality, and performance standards.
- Communicate effectively with team members and help Sales Representatives to understand the rationale for any adverse underwriting decision.Â
- Maintain positive interaction and build relationships with all departments
- Responsible for coordinating facultative reinsurance review with reinsurers.
- Work on assigned projects pertaining to underwriting and enterprise level initiatives.
- Identify process improvements and efficiency gaps, and offers possible solutions while maintaining mortality expectations.Â
- Work independently, but seeks guidance on complex cases.
- Understand how to analyze and assess risk with the use of an automated underwriting rules engine and third-party data requirements.
- Assist in departmental and cross-departmental projects, as required
- Assist in training and development of other team members, as required.
- Provide backup underwriting support during employee absences and peak volume periods. Overtime may be necessary.
- May be called upon to handle other duties as required.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Holds FLMI and AALU designations.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as life insurance underwriter.
- Solid knowledge-base of medical underwriting and mortality/industry trends.
- Advanced study in both the LOMA and the ALU programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills with effective written and verbal communication.
- Strong PC and typing skills, including the use of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
