Description
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, the timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
MassDEP’s Enterprise Information Office (EIO) is the office responsible for coordinating and prioritizing MassDEP’s information management and technology needs.
This position will formally be located at One Winter Street, Boston, MA.
Location flexibility can be discussed.
Under the supervision of the EIO Deputy Director, the EA V, Senior Information and Data Coordinator will support the Deputy Director in identifying and developing MassDEP business requirements and managing project resources in the development of enterprise applications.
This role requires close coordination and collaboration with MassDEP and EEA IT staff to identify solutions and develop strategies to implement solutions that enable robust and intuitive online user interfaces for citizens, regulated community and agency managers and staff to access agency and environmental data.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Within structure of approved projects, Liaising with DEP Program and EEA IT personnel, to develop enterprise software applications.
These duties can include leading or helping to lead requirement discussions, communicating project scope to diverse levels of staff, leading effort to align processes and data needs where feasible across programs, and generally participating in project as ‘product owner’ representing MassDEP interests.
Coordinate and collaborate with agency program leads and other managers to identify improvements to agency business processes in support of more efficient implementation of enterprise information management projects Lead sessions with program leads to prioritize and define system enhancements for existing enterprise systems.
Lead sessions with project team members to conduct and document thorough system testing as needed.
Document legacy information and data stores as it relates to new systems and data transformations and migrations as needed.
Support Deputy Director in identifying opportunities to improve agency ability to make strategic use of system data and information.
Implement Document agency and staff reporting and strategic access to information.
Oversee the resources needed to provide reports, dashboards, data visualizations, as needed DEP management and staff.
Lead meetings, trainings and other opportunities to improve data processes and overall efficiencies to support agency information systems as assigned.
Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have at least six years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional experience in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health, of which (B) at least four years must have been in a professional capacity, and of which (C) at least two years must have been in a supervisory, managerial or administrative capacity, or (D) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the following substitutions.
Substitutions:
I.
An Associate’s degree with a major in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*
II.
A Bachelor’s degree with a major in the field of environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required (A) experience.*
III.
A Graduate degree with a major in environmental science, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental health, meteorology, natural science, toxicology or public health may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required (A) experience and one year of the required (B) experience.*
*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually competed.
NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of one year of the required (B) experience.
No substitutions will be permitted for the required (C) experience.
