Sr. Buyer Planner

The Sr. Buyer Planner is responsible for planning materials and production for multiple flow lines. The position supports a complex supply chain with both domestic and international suppliers and end customers. The position works collaboratively with other value stream team members to ensure appropriate levels of on-hand inventory are available to meet production needs while constantly translating customer demand requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Partner with Commercial Team to understand customer EDI and forecast demand responsibly for both internal and external suppliers. Create master department planning schedules.
• Utilize a multifaceted approach to production material support including kanban, MRP, and hybrid models supporting continuous and intermittent batch production.
• Review MRP, pull system levels, and other inputs to expedite material and properly report daily production status.
• Maintain accurate transactions related to inventory disposition, scrap processing, and cycle counting.
• Interface daily with the customer on all operations issues including, but not limited to; warranty returns, debits/credits, daily shipping schedules, ASNs, transportation of finished product and invoicing.
• Develop and implement sustainable process improvements and lean tools for inventory planning, stocking levels, freight control, and material storage.
• Meet with existing, new, and potential suppliers to implement pull systems, refine delivery schedules, and continuously seek and/or negotiate cost reductions.
• Drive adherence to Quality Management System procedures for nonconforming products, bill of material management, and change control.
• Attend team meetings, and support / fill in for other Value Stream Team members, including directing the hourly workforce at times.
• Involved in hiring, onboarding, and training new Buyer Planners. Act as a backup / deputy for the plant Materials Manager when required.

Critical Competencies

• High level of organization ability required to coordinate a variety of complex activities involving associates at all levels in the organization.
• MRP experience required, JD Edwards preferred.
• Intermediate level of Microsoft Office Suite required; expert level of MS Excel preferred.
• Knowledge of supply chain processes including supplier interface and purchase order placement.
• Understanding of business contracts and/or terms and conditions.
• Strong business writing and communication skills.
• Experience with lean manufacturing concepts including standard work and pull systems (kanban).
• Able to work in a fast paced, challenging, and team environment.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in business or technical field, or 5+ years of directly related experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a planning/scheduling role within a manufacturing environment.
• APICS certification preferred.

Physical Demand and Work Environment:

Jacobs Vehicle Systems (JVS) is a heavy-duty manufacturing facility. As such, all employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas within the facility.
