This Asheville-based MMJ will be able to function as a Reporter and Photographer, telling stories that are relevant and impactful to audiences across the state.Major Duties and Responsibilities Create original news stories; gather information for news stories using beat sources, contacts and leadsBuild contacts and sources within the assigned communityReport within assigned deadlinesDeliver news reports, including live reports, demonstrating energy, confidence, professional appearance and voice qualityWrite, shoot and edit own news stories for an assigned newscast or news seriesCombine video, audio and graphics to tell the story effectivelyWork with a photographer on occasionWork with assignment desk editors and master control operators and independently in the newsgathering processManage general upkeep of assigned company equipmentResponsible for representing channel in a professional mannerEstablish a community presence outside of the newscastsPerform other duties as assignedQualifications: Skill/Abilities and Knowledge Ability to read, write, speak and understand EnglishMust have sufficiently strong story development skills to submit original story ideas on a daily basisLive shot experience requiredMust be able to develop sources, work a beat, and break storiesMust have strong on-camera skillsMust have ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and work under time pressure deadlineExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsAbility to clearly communicate solutionsAbility to relate well with diverse populations and age groupsAbility to interface with internal company personnelAbility to handle breaking news on-airRequires adaptability, enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem solvingMust obtain and maintain a valid drivers license for authorized driving in the State of residenceEducation & Experience: Bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field or comparable television work experience preferred.3 Years of Television News Reporting Experience Our Culture: Every employee is an influencer and culture keeper.
