Senior Plan Check Engineer

This is a Full-time position in Denver, CO posted December 28, 2021.

Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Senior Plan Check Engineer to join our team in Sacramento.

This position under direction, supervise and check building plans for residential, commercial and other structures to ensure compliance with building, mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes, local ordinances, and State and Federal law; conduct field inspections.

Responsibilities

  • Strong understanding of California Building Standards Codes and Referenced Standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps, construction diagrams, plans, blueprints and specifications and evaluate them for compliance with governing codes and standards.
  • Exhibit sound judgment in providing expert code interpretation.
  • Ability to suggest alternate forms of compliance with codes and ordinances.
  • Prepare and present effective oral and written reports.
  • Represent the department at internal and external meetings.
  • Current on legal and technical developments pertaining to building construction and codes.
  • Mentor and train plans examiners and plan check engineers.
  • Supervise up to 2 plans examiners and/or plan check engineers.
  • Function independently as an expert in matters of specialized code, rules, and policy.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years of industry experience, including 5 years reviewing plans for conformance to model codes.
  • Current PE California License is required.
  • Current SE California License is desired.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in management.
  • Excellent communicator and deals effectively with everyone regardless of level of technical expertise.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license is required.

Working Conditions

  • Able to drive to job sites and be able to walk in and through job sites for extended periods.
  • Able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Work with detailed, finely printed documents.
