Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Senior Packaging Development Engineer will be responsible for supporting the internal engineering function on machine projects in specifying all packaging related areas, approval of format specific drawings, ordering of machine run up materials and ensuring that the run-in process can run as planned both in-house and at machine suppliers.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Acts as an interface between marketing, material suppliers, machine suppliers, and production
• Develops and designs new packaging formats including patent checks and the qualification and specification of all needed materials and drawings
• Leads complex packaging related projects through full project life cycle from inception to completion and operational
• Creates measure sheets, technical drawings, and material specifications
• Maintenance of the master drawing database
• Maintains ongoing awareness of emerging technologies, machinery, and supplier skills to ensure delivery of appropriate cost-effective solutions
• Leads and supports multiple packaging development projects in parallel, including implementation
• Responsible for the optimization of the machine/material interface, as well as the optimization of hand packing
• Co-ordination and set up of physical measurements for packaging material
• Monitoring of competitors’ activities in respect to new packaging and packing solutions
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Required Minimum Qualifications :

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study

Experience:

• 5+ years related experience to include, but is not limited to:
  • Development of different packaging solutions for machine and hand packing
  • Awareness of packaging lines, function and interfaces
  • Design and realization of plastic components including molding tools
  • Structural troubleshooting on the machine-material / hand-material interface

Knowledge of:

• Intermediate to Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams
• Intermediate to advanced proficiency with AutoCAD or Solid Works
• Technical knowledge of packaging materials, print technology and manufacturing processes

Education and Experience:

• Master’s degree in a related field of study

Experience:

• Developments in the Far East

Work Environment and Physical Demand:

• Requires light physical effort.

  Occasionally lifts or moves light objects (under 10 lbs.).

• Walks sits or stands for prolonged periods.
• Requires prolonged machine operation including computer and keyboard equipment.
• Position will require candidate to be on location.
