Senior Intellectual Property Counsel PDx

This is a Contract position in Washington, DC posted December 1, 2021.

Job Description Summary As a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel, you will be responsible for setting and driving the Global Intellectual Property strategy throughout GE Pharmaceutical Diagnostics (PDx).

Supporting primarily the PDx business and Care Pathways teams focused on driving integrated solutions, focused on cardiology and oncology care.

This position will be responsible for all aspects of IP from idea generation through patent filing, prosecution, trade secrets, freedom-to-operate, due diligence, agreement drafting, licensing and enforcement.

Job Description Responsibilities Works with business leaders to set and implement appropriate IP strategies to achieve business objectives.

Drafts and negotiates IP-related agreements as well as IP specific terms in other agreements.

Supervises and/or guides work on oppositions proceedings.

Responsible for working closely with R&D and product management teams to develop, cultivate, and maintain an IP portfolio aligned with business investment priorities.

Works closely with PDx and GE Healthcare lawyers in addressing mixed intellectual property/general legal issues.

Provides deep patent analysis expertise to support business development, licensing, and freedom to practice analyses.

Manages IP litigation for defined business areas with GE Healthcare IP litigation team, including keeping the business informed of developments, counselling related to litigation and settlement strategy, and managing associated costs.

Provides IP advice on major transactions and acquisitions, including due diligence activities.

Works with Business Development team to in-license technology and secure revenue through out-licensing where appropriate.

Provides leadership and IP legal advice as a member of multi-functional teams.

Uses a range of tools and data sources to understand the internal and external IP environment.

Qualifications and experience Qualified European Patent Attorney or USPTO-registered Patent Attorney and member of a national or State bar, substantial post-qualification experience.

Technical background in chemistry and biology.

IP attorney experience working in the therapeutic or diagnostic pharmaceuticals sector Previous experience related to IP litigation and licensing activities.

Sound judgment in developing and implementing legal solutions.

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a time pressured environment.

Demonstrated ability to develop process-driven solutions to issues.

Ability to work in a cross-functional environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience of devising innovative IP strategies.

Good commercial awareness and financial acumen Desirable skills While expertise to advise on IP matters in the biology and chemistry fields is essential, experience and desire to work additionally in emerging areas of technology and clinical care would be desirable.

Experience working in a corporate IP environment (although applicants from private practice will be welcome).

Demonstrated record of leading teams and developing others.

Demonstrated experience structuring collaborative development efforts (e.g., joint development agreements).

Experience providing counsel to all levels of management.

Demonstrated experience driving organizational and culture change.

Familiarity with IP valuation methodologies.
