We work in the office and in the field developing solutions for routine design elements, retaining structures, challenging slope stabilization measures, riverbank protection, and deep foundations.n nQualified candidates will have the ability to develop geotechnical solutions, innovate where appropriate, and have an eye for detail to ensure completeness and constructability of plans during the design phase of a project.
They will also have the ability to develop solutions to challenges encountered during construction.

– The Future We Choose n Job Duties n BASIC FUNCTION n nTo perform and supervise environmental, geotechnical, geological, hydrogeological and materials engineering studies using applicable standard geologic and engineering principles and methods.
Assists all departÂments within Snohomish County in providing technical support or coÂordinating the work of consultants or engineering staff in the areas of environmental, geotechnical, geological, hydrogeological and materials engineerÂing.n n STATEMENT OF ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES n Performs geotechnical/geological/hydrogeological studies for various types of projects; conducts vicinity and site reconnaissance to determine existing surficial conditions, vegetation types, wild life habitat, drainage patterns, property uses, existing propÂerty improvements, slope conditions and access requirements; conducts subsurface exploration using drill rig borings, backhoe test pits or hand-sampling techniques; supervises drillÂing personnel, works on or around drill rigs and/or backhoes to obtain representative soil and rock samples and identifies samÂples for laboratory analysis; prepares soil/rock logs including field classification of samples in acÂcordance with the Unified Soil Classification or appropriate rock classifications, observes installation of observation wells and perÂformance of in-situ permeability or percolation tests; prepares figures and technical reports of findings with recommendations for design and construction.
Performs environmental investigations to determine potential imÂpacts of toxic and hazardous materials on county property or property being considered for purchase by the county; performs environmental investigations include search of county records for ownership and use of property, review of historic aerial photos of property; review of pertinent published reports and maps of the site area in the county files; performs field reconÂnaissance of site and adjoining properties to determine existing conditions and property uses on and around the site; correlates and reduces data to make determination of potential of contamÂination or liability to county for contamination on site; prepares figures and technical reports of findings with recommendations for any further investigation requirements; preÂpares cost estimates for further investigations and obtain apÂprovals from project managers; develop and conduct subsurface environmental investigations following proper procedures for sampling, personnel health and safety; sets up testing program for collecting samples; reviews data with Washington State DeÂpartment of /Ecology (WSDOE), if appropriate, to develop further testing requirements of clean up recommendations; prepares reÂport stating findings, implications; and clean up recommenÂdations if appropriate; coordinates cleanup operations if required.
Exercises independent geologic and engineering judgment to develop specific recommendations for cost effective solutions; leads and facilitates problem solving efforts; works with and coordinates the efforts of multidisciplinary teams to implement geotechnical solutions in complex public works projects.
Acts as a technical consultant for all departments within Snohomish County in dealing with environmental, geotechnical, geological, and hydrogeological issues.
Reviews independent environmental, geotechnical, and hydrogeological consultant reports for Snohomish County projects to determine if scope has been met and to insure that the recommendations are consistent with site investigation findings, design calculations; project requirements; or county, state or federal regulations.
Plans and supervises field drilling and backhoe operations.
Acts as a coordinator between the county and WSDOE on EnvironÂmental Site Assessment issues.
