Senior Frontend Engineer, User Journey

Carta

This is a Full-time position in Palo Alto, CA posted December 24, 2021.

The Company You’ll Join

At Carta we create owners and make private markets liquid.

We live in a world where some people live on the equity stack and enjoy exponential wealth growth and preferential tax treatment; others live on the debt stack and may work their entire lives for a company and retire only with the cash they’ve managed to save from their paychecks.

Our contribution to solving the wealth inequality problem is moving people from the debt stack (payroll) to the equity stack.

By making it as easy to issue equity to employees as it is to put them on payroll, we can create more owners.

At Carta, we are helpful, transparent, fair, and kind.

We are relentless executors, unconventional thinkers, and masters of our craft.

The Team You’ll Work With

Our team at Carta, User Journey, is responsible for onboarding shareholders like you and me (employees) to Carta and building great portfolio experiences that help employees understand their equity.

We want to ensure the products we built on top of these core experiences are well integrated to make equity more approachable to shareholders, Carta’s largest demographic!

Our goal is to foster emotional loyalty of this high-leverage stakeholder (employees like you & I) and build trustworthy and engaging relationships with our users by making their first interaction with Carta a great experience.

You’ll join a small, cross-functional team as a Senior Frontend Engineer.

Day-to-day, you’ll have opportunities to partner closely with other engineers, product managers, and business leaders.

You will work closely with design to scope out work early and provide feedback.

You will participate in team-wide and org-wide syncs to align on and drive best practices.

We believe in smaller teams to allow for greater focus and have an immense amount of ownership over the problems that we solve.

We have a strong collaborative relationship between Product and Engineering.  Being helpful is ingrained in our culture.

The Problems You’ll Solve

As a Senior Frontend Engineer on the User Journey team, you are primarily responsible for designing, building, and maintaining frontend components, as well as helping us shape our technical roadmap for the frontend.

The Stakeholder team that User Journey is part of has spearheaded the core to FE domain decomposition at Carta , the module federation service (now owned and vastly expanded by the FE platform team).

The team adopted OpenAPI to document APIs formally and ensure we can generate FE clients automatically.

We are transitioning to become an experience-centric product engineering team.

We will heavily collaborate with core platform teams to build an experience layer on top of core data and operations.

Some of the problems you could be solving include:

  • Work closely with product to define a technical roadmap for decomposing core experiences of the User Journey
  • Build and use production-deployed frontend components for User Journey experiences
  • Shape and integrate with domain-driven REST APIs
  • Work closely with product and the data team to ensure we are tracking metrics to enable product iterations
  • Help us domain-decompose existing frontend components
  • Collect technical, product, and design requirements for current and future projects
  • Work with design, product, and business functions on new projects and efforts

About You

You identify as a generalist but are regarded by your peers as profoundly knowledgeable in a specific area.

You understand that technology is only a piece of the puzzle, so you enjoy collaborating with others to help solve their problems.

Those problems are usually lofty, complicated, and ambiguous, so your communications skills are honed and effective.

You are extraordinarily mission-driven and are as excited about 0 to 1 projects as well as iterating.

You have 5+ years of frontend engineering experience and experience architecting complex user interfaces at scale.

As a bonus, you have experience mentoring junior developers.

We use React and Typescript to build frontend components and Webpack for our build processes.

Other required skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience building and maintaining a complex set of systems
  • Experience working with product leads to deliver on time and target
  • Experience shaping and integrating with domain-driven APIs

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing a positive interview experience for every candidate.

If accommodations due to a disability or medical condition are needed, connect with us via email at .

As a company, we value fairness, helpfulness, transparency, leadership and build our teams around these values.
