As Senior Counsel you will be responsible for managing regulatory and litigation matters arising out of professional services.
The position affords a significant level of autonomy to independently manage and control legal strategy in collaboration with other members of the RSM legal team and outside counsel.
Among your responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of regulatory matters, including SEC, PCAOB and internal inspections, inquiries and investigations Manage all aspects of litigation matters, including case assessment, strategy, discovery, substantive motions and briefing, trial preparation and settlement Coordinate and manage outside counsel Assist with complex or significant subpoenas related to professional services Assist with PCAOB inspections and State CPA Board inquiries
Location Flexibility:
RSM has offices in more than 90 locations throughout the US and Canada.
RSM’s candidate search for this position is nationwide.
Preferred office locations for this position include Chicago, DC, NYC, Boston, LA or San Francisco.
Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
Six to twelve years of experience in litigation and regulatory investigations, compliance and defense through relevant law firm, government (SEC, DOJ, prosecutor, etc.) and/or in-house positions Flexible on years of experience for candidates with CPA firm, SEC, PCAOB, AICPA, State CPA authority or other unique non-legal professional/industry experience
Preferred experience/attributes include (but not required):
Professional liability defense with special focus on accountant’s liability SEC and financial regulatory matters CPA background Trial experience International experience Superior work ethic and high-energy individual Excellent communication skills, must be articulate and possess critical thinking and writing skills Ability to work effectively with internal clients, senior executives and other personnel across multiple client service lines of business and subject matter areas Strong attention to detail, well organized and able to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously Demonstrate ability to learn business requirements quickly, analyze legal risks and propose strategic solutions Positive attitude and willing to tackle wide range of routine to complex projects in a high-volume environment Degree from a top national law school and/or top 5% of graduating law school class Member of any state bar in good standing
