The malaria research lab of Dr.

Ashley Vaughan (www.

org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/vaughan-lab/) at the Center for Global Infectious Disease Research (CGIDR) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute (SCRI) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Scientist to study the genetic attenuation of malaria parasites.

The ultimate aim of the research is to create an effective attenuated malaria vaccine for clinical trials.

This position offers an great opportunity to work in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment.

This work will be performed in the joint laboratories of Dr.

Vaughan and Dr.

Stefan Kappe (www.Seattlechildrens.Org/research/centers-programs/global-infectious-disease-research/research-areas-and-labs/kappe-lab/) at CGIDR, which comprises a large, multidisciplinary team that will provide training in cutting-edge molecular parasitology techniques.

The project includes genetic manipulation of malaria parasites and phenotypic analysis across the whole malaria life cycle.

The successful candidate will have a keen interest in working with Plasmodium as a parasite of global health importance, basic parasite biology, and the translation of novel findings into approaches for intervention.

Job responsibilities will include: Producing Plasmodium falciparum parasites at all life cycle stagesProducing transgenic parasite linesPerforming data analysis and presenting research at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and in peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts Along with a curriculum vitae, candidates must provide a cover letter detailing the following: Their interest in working on the malaria parasite Their scientific career ambitions and research goals Hope.
