PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To provide clinical Respiratory Care Services underthe supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Effectiveverbal and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the growth anddevelopment process of pediatric and adult patients and clients. Able to utilize available resources tobroaden clinical skills and enhance professional growth.
MAJOR DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Professional/Clinical:
Prepare oxygen therapy equipment according todepartmental policies. Performcapillary blood sampling under supervision of a licensed Therapist. Administeraerosolized medication via hand held nebulizer; perform airway clearance,breathing exercises and metered dose inhalations. Bills for services in afinancially responsible manner. Sets up and maintains respiratory care equipmentincluding oxygen masks, tracheostomy collars, T-pieces, face tents, nasalcannula. Collects discontinued equipment from patients are areas, cleans theequipment, calibrates the equipment and prepares the equipment for the nextpatient. Other duties and responsibilities may be considered pending successfulobservation and completion of accompanying competency in an appropriateclinical setting.

Follows all departmental policies and procedures. Respectspatients rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential informationas defined by Cincinnati Children’s mission, applicable laws and regulationswhile providing for the exchange of appropriate patient care and clinicalinformation when patients are admitted, referred, transferred, or discharged.Furnish data the will contribute to the assessment of patient needs, theorganization’s capability to provide the appropriate level of treatment whilemaintaining timeliness, accuracy, availability, and security of information. Developknowledge and professional skills through professional literature andattendance at departmental meetings and inservices.

Collaboratewith the health care team to provide optimal patient care in a professional andculturally diverse fashion. Ensure that work areas are organized and present asafe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients,and families. Attend required training sessions including CPR training, Safety College,CARES, diversity. Comply with infection control policies and procedures.

Qualification:

Required:
Second year student who maintains enrollment in good standing in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program or a new-graduate Respiratory Therapist actively pursuing professional licensure. L
imited Ohio license required.
