SUMMARY:
The Resin Compounder effects color changes on injection molding equipment operating various color mixing devices to color plastic resins to match customers’ samples to meet customer order requirements. This position requires training and compliance with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures. This position is also responsible for maintaining regrind equipment within the Molding department as well as assisting in housekeeping within the department to maintain a safe work environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Perform color changes as required including calibration of color and/or additives using gram scales and math formulas to determine let-down ratio.
Set up hopper systems to proper ratios of material/concentrate/regrind/additives.
Qualify color using range boards, approved samples, and/or chips.
Clean machines and color pumps at change overs.
Perform proper line clearances at change overs.
Read and review order picklist.
Accurately scan all colorant and materials to orders.
Check colorant and material running on machines and replace as required.
Ensure accurate scanning of any colorant/material removed from warehouse.
Maintain resin area and color equipment in an orderly manner.
Assist with part containment on machines.
Assist with production operations as required.
Transfer materials and color barrels to and from stock locations.
Combine liquid color buckets and materials in gaylords.
Calibrate color additives and fill color canisters.
Take silo readings and receive bulk material for silo when required.
Run and qualify sample colors/sample requests.
Empty regrind vacuum and keep liquid color pumps clean.
Replace tube sets and clean filters on hopper systems.
Complete related paperwork and use computer to locate colorant/material locations.
Work with various departments and assist in cycle count and physical inventory.
Must follow all Silgan work rules and policies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
One to three months related experience and/or training.
Must be able to operate forklift in accordance with OSHA regulations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentage.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
