Project Lead

Partners in Health

This is a Full-time position in Chicago, IL posted December 14, 2021.

Project Overview 

Leveraging Partners In Health (PIH’s) experience and lessons learned from our COVID contact tracing collaboration with the state of Massachusetts, and our 30 years of global work in emergency epidemic response and health systems strengthening, PIH has launched a new team to accompany U.S.

states, cities, and community partners in rapidly scaling up more equitable and effective public health responses to COVID-19 in the US.

The U.S.

Public Health Accompaniment Unit (PHAU) team works to accompany public sector and community partners on the frontlines of the public health response to COVID-19, to address this acute-on-chronic public health crisis, by providing technical assistance and knowledge sharing platforms to accelerate implementation of effective, equitable COVID-19 responses.

Our approach to providing technical assistance to different public sector and community partners in the United States includes providing expertise and advice on design and implementation, incorporating an equity lens into execution, and creating a community of partners across the US to share best practices and challenges in order to fortify efforts amidst the national response to COVID-19.

Position Overview

The Project Lead joins the Chicagoland Vaccine Partnership (CVP) team with the goal of mobilizing community members to ensure equitable vaccine access and strengthen our public health workforce.

Together with our 135+ members, the Vaccine Partnership coordinates the people and resources needed to improve Chicagoland’s public health infrastructure beyond the pandemic.

The Project Lead will lead the day-to-day operations of the CVP and will supervise a team of two Project Managers, one Senior Project Manager, and one Senior Design Strategist, in addition to supporting a number of short-term employees as part of a separately funded sprint of capacity building into December 2021.

The Project Lead will be responsible for optimal operation of the CVP– including large weekly meetings, specific collaborations for monitoring and evaluation, dedicated youth and education sector programs, ongoing support for community grantees, and aspects of public health training and workforce development.

The Project Lead will collaborate closely with the Illinois State Director in managing engagement with external partners and may serve the primary liaison for select partners.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the central organizing functions of the CVP with community healthcare, and public health partners – including (though not limited to) the Chicago Department of Public Health and Cook County DPH.

This includes weekly large meetings, development of working groups based on priority needs, ongoing communication through a newsletter and customized email / text campaigns while adapting to shifting public health priorities.

• Partner with Illinois leadership team to design and implement strategic planning.

• Lead the Illinois team to assure work in Illinois is both benefiting from and contributing to larger PHAU efforts.

• Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive monitoring and evaluation framework for the CVP.

The CVP team is partnering closely with the Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) for technical leadership and some aspects of implementation, and the Project Lead will serve as a primary liaison to SUHI.

• Develop strong relationships will all CVP participating partners and assure everyone in the partnership has the resources they need to participate and benefit from the partnership.

• Supervise one Senior Project Manager, one Senior Design Strategist, and two Project Managers on an ongoing basis.

• Lead meetings with CVP partners for both orientation and ongoing engagement.

• Oversee technical assistance for Health First Fund Rapid Funding Grantees and help maintain connections with all CVP activities.

• Support coordination with Department of Health colleagues to keep weekly meetings current, collaborate on data / resources needed to drive equity concerns, and support communication between DPH colleagues and community partners.

• Support ongoing communications for the CVP generally, with press when available, and between all stakeholders: may include compiling and creating communications updates to document and disseminate progress.

• Develop content, coordination, engagement, and delivery of public health workforce curricula.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in relevant fields related to public health, public policy, or social science preferred.

• 6-8 years of experience in public health or community program development and implementation required.

• 4+ years of community engagement and collaboration required.

• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and health equity.

Experience / leadership in creating and implementing anti-racist approaches to teamwork and with external partners desired.

• Spanish language ability would be a tremendous asset.

• Experience with training / teaching preferred.

• Proven experience crafting and executing strategy for innovative initiatives.

• Experience collaborating between public health or other governmental programs preferred.

• Demonstrated experience in effectively managing and prioritizing a large number of projects simultaneously in a complex and fast-paced organization and setting.

• Excellent strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with staff and leadership across a diverse range of departments, organizations, and experience levels.

• Experience managing projects that involve multiple stakeholders and workstreams

• Experience working in complex, dynamic environments

• Sound judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
