Program Operations Analyst (Building and Industrial Applications)

Berkeley Lab’s Building Technology and Urban Systems (BTUS) Division is looking for a Program Operations Analyst to join their Building and Industrial Applications Department (BIA)!

In this role, you will serve as the point of contact for 50001 Ready operations support, manage and coordinate a wide range of program needs, and manage complex and diverse activities for 50001 Ready administration.

Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will predominantly focus on providing support to Energy Management Systems (EnMS) program operations and support to senior staff including BIA’s Principal Investigators (PIs) providing program management, stakeholder communications, milestone gathering and tracking, 50001 Ready help desk support, tracking and generation of materials for the 50001 Ready recognition and certification process, interviews, monitoring and assisting with administration of the 50001 Ready program.

On behalf of the US Department of Energy (DOE), LBNL administers the 50001 Ready program.

50001 Ready is a self-paced, no cost, voluntary program that recognizes facilities across all economic sectors for implementation of a continual improvement in energy management business practices that results in improved energy performance.

The 50001 Ready program is structured around the publicly available web based 50001 Ready Navigator software.

In just over one year of operation over 1000 users have registered 50001 Ready Navigator accounts and created over 400 individual projects.

LBNL administers 50001 Ready not only to facilitate the associated DOE recognition program but to research the economic value of such practices.

What You Will Do:

  • Process 50001 Ready and other energy management system program recognition applications and interface as required with participants through the recognition process.
  • Work with staff to frame and draft marketing and outreach materials in support of energy management system programs.
  • Analyze program participation and other key metrics, prepare regular reports for LBNL, DOE, and other stakeholders.
  • Provide program management support to track and monitor costs and prepare budget reports by utilizing institutional systems.
  • Provide procurement support of small and large items in coordination with the Lab’s Procurement Department.
  • Interface with the Communications Team to ensure high quality communication and marketing materials are developed as required.
  • Manage and maintain the shared electronic file folders and contents for easy access and use by team members.
  • Interact with administrative personnel to ensure program objectives are met.
  • Identify program operational improvement opportunities and make recommendations for best practices or operational strategy with senior staff.

What is Required:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent knowledge/training) in Engineering, Social Science, Business, Program Management, Public or Environmental Policy, or a related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience in program planning, scheduling, and communicating results.
  • ​​Strong knowledge of program/project management and communication and outreach strategies and execution.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills including the ability to analyze data/problems and provide practical resourceful solutions.
  • Significant experience using a variety of cloud-based software platforms and applications including MS Office Suite, Google Apps Suite, and Zoom web conferencing.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills including experience producing professional high-quality, error-free documents, reports, and presentations.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently to meet workload demands and deadlines, to respond quickly and maintain flexibility during periods of changing work priorities and tight time constraints.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including experience interfacing with all levels of personnel both internal and external to an organization with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

What We Prefer:

  • Familiarity with State and Federal programs and initiatives in the area of Energy Technologies.
  • Knowledge of Berkeley Lab, UC, DOE, and federal policies, regulations, and procedures.
