Addresses issues with impact beyond own team based on knowledge of related disciplines
Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees
Functions as advisor to unit and administration
Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action
Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of Org unit resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives
Responsibilities and Requirements of the role:

Leads/supervises a team of 2 or more professionals; first level manager of a work team that could comprise professionals, technical and/or administrative staff
Typically without budget or hire/fire authority.
Focuses on mentoring, coaching, and coordination
Is accountable for the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function
Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance from senior manager
Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers Accountable for results of a small team
Exercises limited management authority; sets employee performance objectives, conducts performance reviews and recommends pay actions
Defines team operating standards and ensures essential procedures are followed based on knowledge of own discipline
