Overview nnThe Lithium Product Engineer is responsible for designing and developing innovative, cost effective lithium battery products for Industrial Motive Power applications.

Areas of activities include electrochemical design and component design.

The position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

This position is responsible for definition and completion of lithium-ion battery related projects through the use of engineering problem solving methods and principles.

This position is a critical technical team member that has broad responsibilities to support the MP Lithium Engineering team.

The functions of this job are geared towards the development and improvement of new and existing products.

This person will serve as an important technical contributor to the lithium business team with responsibilities ranging from product design, technical subject matter expert on lithium and associated electrical/electronic approaches to design, analysis of customer requests relating to proper customer solutions, championing cost reduction efforts, direct support of lithium manufacturing and frequent direct communication with upper management and lithium customers.nn Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty under the guidance of the appropriate supervisor and/or independently.

Essential duties include the following; other duties may be assigned.

Design new products to meet requirements of customers and/or marketing and sales.

Effectively translate the “voice of the customer” to new products.

Product breadth includes all lithium products currently in the industrial business portfolio.

Initiate and assist in new cost improvement projects focused on improving the cost and quality of current product lines.

This may include new or enhanced design, materials or process related projects.

Facilitate the introduction of new or modified collateral document materials to the product line and provide technical support data to Marketing to create a compelling sales story.

Prepare Bills of Material and Engineering Change orders in support of new products or continuous improvement projects Issue product specifications to match product construction or in support of other departments Initiate prototype and design validation builds, coordinate builds effectively with the plants, capture build successes and failures Make oral and written presentations (i.e.

monthly status report) Contribute to product related problem solving activities Manage projects which require strong cross functional engagement.

Facilitate team building.

Effectively capture cost reduction savings and determine impact to product lines and the business.

Interface with customers as required to solve customer field/engineering problems and present new ideas Facilitate product related standardization to global standards as applicable.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Authorities: There are no direct supervisory responsibilities but the position will need to provide direction to other product development engineers, technicians and line operators in the planning and execution of development projects as appropriate.

Qualifications Education, Experience, Certifications: BS in Electrical/Electronics, Computer Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

Prefer minimum 2-5 years experience in engineering, testing and product development in an industrial environment Good understanding of fundamental product development concepts Lithium battery experience preferred Must be comfortable and competent working with high energy systems (480V AC, 30Kw battery systems) Competencies, Skills, Knowledge: Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures such as statistical, algebraic and trigonometric values, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume Familiarity with the application of basic concepts of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry Competent in basic electrical voltage, current, energy and power calculations and associated derivations Familiarity with Design of Experiments is a plus Familiarity with Six Sigma and Project Management tools is a plus Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Language Skills: Ability to write detailed technical reports concerning assigned projects Excellent verbal and written communication skills, good record keeping and documentation skills.

Ability to speak effectively before groups, and to communicate professionally with customers nnPC Software Knowledge:nn Computer applications knowledge in Windows environment with MS Office experience plus familiarity with operating within Google Suite Physical Demands: Hearing, speaking, seeing, writing, standing, lifting (50 lbs.), sitting, bending, walking, and carrying nnWork Environment:nn Normal office environment is typical.

However, there will be frequent field and factory visits where there is some exposure to industrial environments including lithium and lead acid batteries, fumes, dirt, and noise nnTravel, other requirements:nn Domestic Travel within the US
