Position Overview:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise
and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub
purposed to enable the external cancer research community. The CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology
Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and translational nanomedicine studies in support of extramural nanomedicine community, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer-related research. The NCL is an integral part of the Nanodelivery Systems and Devices Branch of the NCI Division for Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD).

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• In a multidisciplinary team to develop new methodologies for the characterization of nanoparticles interactions with the immune system, and conduct mechanistic studies to understand the mechanisms of immunotoxicity of nanotechnology-formulated drugs
• The postdoctoral researcher will work with human primary immune cells and blood plasma to perform cell-based, molecular biology and biochemical assays
• The postdoctoral researcher will prepare presentations for conferences and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Possession of a doctorate degree in Immunology or related scientific field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U. S. equivalency
• Hands-on experience in applying immunology concepts and methods to biomedical research
• Fluent in statistical analysis of biological data
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• At least 3 years of immunology experience including graduate research
• Experience with designing and conducting multi-color flow cytometry analysis and immunophenotyping
• Experience with preparation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and isolation of individual cells types (CD4+, CD8+ T-cells, B-cells, pDC)
• Experience in preparation and characterization of monocyte-derived dendritic cells
• Experience in co-culture experiments to characterize cytotoxicity of CTLs and NK cells
• Experience in conducting and analyzing ELISA data, especially in multiplex format
• Experience in conducting animal studies to study vaccine efficacy
• Experience in working with nanomaterials
