Polysomnography Technologist III – Sleep Labs

This is a Contract position in Atlanta, GA posted August 30, 2021.

Overview: The Technologist (Technician) will perform a wide variety of polysomnogrpahy procedures on patients with suspected injury and disease resulting in a sleep disorder(s).

The Technologist is responsible for preparation of the patient for testing, performing the study, and the collection of information pertinent to the interpretation of the test results.

In addition, the technologist also shares in responsibility for patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).

This responsibility is shared with the EMU technicians.

The Technologist must demonstrate competence defined () in Polysomnography Technologist responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21-years, and selected adult patients.The incumbent will also assist in the Sleep Clinic.

The technologist must be able to coordinate the scheduling of patients, physicians, psychologist, and facilities.Nightshift Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.

Must be Registered in Respiratory Care or Registry Eligible.

Pediatric experience is a plus.

Registered Sleep technology certification in desired, but will train.

Candidate must receive their credentials in sleep within 3 years of employment.

A Place to Be Proud Responsibilities: Following established Polices and Procedures the incumbent is responsible for performing various polysomnographic procedures on patients with possible injury and disease resulting in sleep disorders.

Responsible for the application and operation of acute care short and long term mechanical ventilationand the require advance evaluation in the Sleep Disorders Center.7.

Portable Polysomnogrpahy8.

Administration of CPAP and BiPAP ventilation 9.

Take verbal orders from physician.11 Transcribe written orders and take verbal orders from an physician or designee.

Specific tests may require the application of non-routine recording parameters.

These tests may employ special recording techniques to record eye movements, muscle activity, ECG, chest wall movement, tongue movements, and nasal and oral airflow, among others.

Testing may occasionally be necessary in the Intensive Care Units, Emergency Room, or patient’s room.Clinic responsibilities include scheduling personnel and facilities, medical chart management, and follow through of physician orders and billing.List of Duties: Adhering to all Policies and Procedures.

Effectively relates and interacts with patients, families, and the health care team.Teach, train, supervise polysomgraphy Technicians I and II, trainees ,neuodiagnostic assistants and respiratory students.

Scheduling patients for clinics and diagnostic studies.

Accurately applying leads according to the International 10:20 System.

Adapting recording methods and instrumentation to obtain results based on history, clinical observation and Sleep Study findings.

Recognizing and eliminating artifact and electrical interference in order to obtain high quality tracings.

Knowing and understanding EEG, EMG, ECG, respiratory and oximetry patterns, as well as recognition of other physiologic patterns.Having a complete understanding of each instrument and its controls, as well as a knowledge of basic electronics and troubleshooting techniques.

Displaying each patients’ activity in an optimal fashion for clinical interpretation.Competent in finger-stick or heal-stick blood draws.

Implementing advanced techniques including; parasomnias v.

apnea protocols, seizures v.

apnea, video taping, CPAP, BiPAP, infant/child/young adult/adult procedures, e.g.

sizing respiratory belts to fit appropriately, etc.

Staging or Scoring the study as to the duration and timing of sleep stages.Providing appropriate patient care and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient-emergency situationsParticipating in conferences, technical meetings, and other educational activities.

Serving as inservice training instructor for junior staff, technologist trainees, and other medical personnel, and patient family members.

Writing a summary of the patient’s clinical status and history from the chart, patient, parent, guardian, or other knowledgeable person(s).

Explaining the procedure to the patient and/or any family members present.

Answering phones, scheduling procedures, and attending to front office responsibilities during periods of high volume or coworker illness.

Facilitating the transportation of equipment and patients as necessary to complete the daily work schedule.Monitor patients physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial/capillary blood gases, and blood chemistry changes, and consult with physician is needed.

Conduct tests, such as electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests, to evaluate patients’ cardiopulmonary functions.

Administers respiratory therapy treatments via medications, assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changesEvaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress; recommending adjustments and modifications.

Facilitates use and maintenance of all treatment equipment and triages all home care related questions and needs to the appropriate entity (physician, sleep center, home care company).

Coordinates treatment equipment delivery between the patient and their home care companyActs as a liaison between the patient, home care company and sleep center to ensure continuity of care.

Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment.

Management of artificial airways and treatment parameters.?

Maintaining department records and preparing tracings for storage.

Contributing to the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program in the institution and department.

Maintain CQI records for the lab.

Maintaining supplies at a reasonable level and ordering supplies.Processing patient charge information.

Maintaining equipment in a calibrated and clean fashion.Distributing a Patient Satisfaction Survey to the patient or parent/guardian.

Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSThe candidate must be a high school graduate The candidate must have a current CPR certificate Current OH license in Respiratory Care.

One years experience in Polysomnography.

Registry Eligible for BRPT exam.Graduate of an AMA approved two years Respiratory Therapy Program.

Must hold a valid respiratory credential (CRT or RRT) from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) One year Critical Care experience.The following are desirable qualifications:Bachelors Degree in Health Sciences or related field Proficient in computer operations/technology.AGE(S) OF PATIENTS SERVED(Indicate whether or not the position has some responsibility for the assessment, treatment, or care of pediatric and selected adult patients.) __X__Yes _____No MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSIn incumbent must be able to perform the following physical requirement: Ability to lift up to thirty pounds frequently.

Reaching above the head, stooping, and kneeling frequently.
