The starting hiring amount is $19.55 to $25.00/hour for this position.
This is a seasonal/temporary position with no benefits.
This position is responsible for planning, executing and instructing exercise and fitness plans that meet individual fitness needs for a wide-range of clients across the age and ability spectrum.
Primarily and most frequently, work is performed under direct supervision within one functional area and of a routine nature.
Reports to a Parks and Recreation Operations Specialist or Management Specialist.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Evaluates client fitness level and skillset to plan appropriate training activities to participants’ age, fitness level and health history; Documents written lesson plans of training; charts and tracks client progress; Leads clients through exercise routines with proper techniques and instructions in order to complete a designated progression or skill level; Communicates effectively, professionally, courteously and thoroughly with the highest regard to the customer; Educates and monitors client(s) through strength training and weightlifting; Counsels and educates client(s) on diet, nutrition and exercise; Motivates and encourages client(s) through positive words while training; Ensures equipment use and physical exercises are performed safely; Adjusts client personalized plans as goals are reached; May lead group classes on proper exercise routines; Demonstrates and encourages correct warm-up and stretching techniques to avoid injury; Performs CPR, first aid or other emergency procedures if necessary; Follows all health and safety regulations when working with equipment; Performs related duties as required.
Education, Experience and Skills Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years of age or older by employment start date.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience to a high school diploma which provides the required knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the job.
Minimum of six (6) months of related experience conducting personal training sessions in a fitness environment.
Special Requirements: Possession of CPR/AED First Aid Certification Personal Trainer certification from, but not limited to, one of the following nationally accredited organizations required: ACSM: American College of Sports Medicine NSCA: National Strength and Conditioning Association ACE: American Council on Exercise NASM: National Academy of Sports Medicine All staff serving in this role must attend the Parks and Recreation Certification program for Personal Instructors on an annual basisMust be able to work flexible schedule including early mornings, weeknights and/or weekends.Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years as a certified personal trainer preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of personal training practices, safety principles and first aid; skill in training techniques and use of fitness equipment; skill in assessing participants interests and capabilities; skill in program evaluation and development; ability to communicate orally and in writing; ability to enforce safety practices; ability to get along with and interact with others.
Physical Conditions & Additional Information Physical requirements of this position as outlined by the Department of Labor: MEDIUM: work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
This position may be required to work weekends, nights and/or holidays.
This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident and random testing.
Work may involve exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
