As a Payment Operations Analyst, you will be responsible for creating, running, and maintaining processes that help us operate at scale.

Additionally, you will ensure that our projects are defined, tracked, and communicated in a concise, consistent, and effective manner.

You will review and understand existing and prospective business cases and will be responsible for organizing and prioritizing objectives.

You will implement critical initiatives by identifying, escalating, tracking, and resolving tasks and projects on time.

Payments are at the core of Gusto’s business.

The Payments Team ensures that the payments infrastructure at Gusto is operating efficiently and optimally.

The payments infrastructure is the end-to-end payment life cycle and payments data that feeds into the backend of our products and is delivered by our cross-functional partners.

We currently process +$20bn of payroll annually, and with your help, we can continue to scale accurately and sustainably.

  • Develop a strong understanding of all aspects of the payment transaction lifecycle, from architecture, execution, reconciliations, and error resolution.
  • Serve as an additional line of defense to catch and prevent payment errors and loss.
  • Resolve payment, accounting, and tax issues by managing Gusto’s operational payment systems.
  • Support Gusto cash reconciliations with any payment-related exceptions.
  • Monitor ACH file submissions and mitigate acknowledgment issues.

Project management responsibilities

  • Create and maintain project documentation as the single source of truth to keep teams aligned and informed.
  • Manage project schedules and requirements, identify possible issues, and communicate them to project stakeholders.
  • Implement standard operating procedures and educate the team after project completion.
  • Facilitate project retrospectives to collect feedback, draw out lessons learned, and document best practices.
  • Develop trusted partnerships with internal stakeholders by collaborating and delivering on common goals.
  • Understand data and related trends to develop enhanced processes to reduce operational risk.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Experienced in leading and executing projects spanning operations and engineering, and can distill complexity into clarity, and drive impact and velocity across teams.
  • Curious, driven, focused, and detail-oriented.

    Able to influence without authority.

    Relentless in driving to closure and building strong relationships.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Recommended or eager to learn: has strong SQL skills to perform complex queries and create dashboards and alerts.
  • Bonus: experience working in the payments industry or financial services.

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $60-000
– $81,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $75,000
– $101,000 for San Francisco & New York.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
