Paving Equipment Operator ($1000 Sign-On Bonus) – Interstate Concrete & Asphalt (Rathdrum, ID)

Position Overview

This is a skilled position involving the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy construction equipment including but not limited to Roller, Paver or Screed, Blade, Skip Loader, Skid Steer, Etc. in order to prepare, and pave asphalt. This position will also work at construction sites performing general construction and clean-up tasks. This position may also drive CDL water truck and other vehicles for the purpose of delivering water and other materials to the job site. Duties of CDL driver will include driving truck pulling a trailer with heavy equipment on board for the purpose of delivering to the job site.

Upon hire and successful completion of the pre-employment process, a sign on bonus of $1000 will be provided*.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

General Laborer:

• Shovel, rake and compact materials in pave operations.
• Operate asphalt saw, concrete saw, chain saw and other power tools to remove asphalt and debris.
• Traffic control, including flagging and set-up of signs, cones and barriers.
• Operate water truck, oil distributors and other equipment as instructed.
• Load, unload from work truck and clean tools and equipment as needed.
• Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.

Equipment Operator:

• Operate equipment safely and efficiently by utilizing equipment within its designed parameters. Equipment operated may include but is not limited to Roller, Paver or Screed, Blade, Skip Loader, Skid Steer, Etc.
• Perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.
• Keep machines cleaned and maintained.
• Travel to and from various locations.
• Must have knowledge of proper equipment operation, and work operations
• Loads and unloads equipment and secures equipment on trailer
• Assist labor crew including shoveling, raking and compacting of asphalt materials
• Routinely assist other members of the work force in different areas of production.
• Promptly communicate with paving crew on any flaws in material.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Other tasks and duties as assigned to meet business needs.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

Wage: $20-28/hour w/ potential for OT
*Further details regarding the sign-on bonus will be discussed at time of job offer.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• Previous asphalt grade/pave operations and/or construction related experience preferred.

• Demonstrates the willingness to work overtime and weekends/holidays.
• Demonstrates the willingness to learn and work a variety of job tasks.
• Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, site specifications, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Class A CDL with self-certification of non-excepted interstate and current DOT medical card preferred.

Other Qualifications:

• Must be able to pass physical fitness and agility test.
• Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screen.
