Overnight Counselor – 815 Buena Vista

This is a Full-time position in San Francisco, CA posted September 10, 2021.

Job Overview 815 Buena Vista West residential is a dual-diagnosis, gender-inclusive withdrawal management and residential treatment program located next to Buena Vista Park in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district.

It is a 108-bed trauma-informed program staffed by an interdisciplinary clinical team of substance abuse counselors and therapists working in coordination with medical and psychiatry services.

815 utilizes evidence-based curricula to provide group counseling, individual counseling, psychotherapy, and a community concept to care for some of San Francisco’s most vulnerable adults.

Our goal is to serve clients in an environment where they feel supported and accepted so they can begin their recovery in a safe and peaceful setting.

Overnight Counselors are responsible for maintaining and assessing the safety and security of the program and it residents throughout the night while providing a supportive treatment environment.

Through effective communication, Overnight Counselors relay relevant information to other members of the interdisciplinary team and performs crisis intervention as needed.

Overnight Counselors ensure that the treatment environment is safe and welcoming.

Key Responsibilities Safety and Security Responsibilities: * Remains alert and awake during the entire overnight shift (11pm-7:30am).* Performs house runs to ensure and maintain accountability of all clients and the safety and security of the facility.* Performs crisis intervention and communicates with treatment team as unforeseen situations arise.* Documents client updates and incidents in the facility log daily.* Performs CPR and First Aid as needed.* Will work weekends and holidays as needed.

Treatment Setting Responsibilities: * When assigned the DOT, documents and accurately distributes client money, ensures client medications is securely stored and properly accounted for and hold facility keys and floater cellular phones.* Ensure all house tasks are completed.* Appropriately files any outstanding paperwork.* Maintains tracking sheet and sends to the appropriate departments before the end of the shift.* Attends required trainings and meetings.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education Required: * Drug and Alcohol Registration or Certification recognized by DHCS.* First Aid Certified.* CPR Certified.* High School diploma or equivalent.

Desired: * Drug and Alcohol Certification recognized by DHCS.

Background Clearance Required: * Must not be on active parole or probation.

Knowledge Required: * Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.* Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word Outlook and internet applications.* Experience working successfully with issues of substance abuse, mental health, criminal background, and other potential barriers to economic self sufficiency.* Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.

Skills and Abilities Required: * Professionalism, punctuality, flexibility and reliability are imperative.* Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.* Action oriented.

Strong problem-solving skills.* Excellent organization skills and ability to multitask and juggle multiple priorities.

Outstanding ability to follow-through with tasks.* Ability to remain alert and awake during overnight shifts to perform job responsibilities.* Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility.* Strong initiative and enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in whenever needed.* Able to communicate well at all levels of the organization including working with organization leadership and high-level representatives of partner organizations.* Able to work within a frequently changing project scope while maintaining overall direction and structured priorities.

Desired: * Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and trauma informed treatment.* Bilingual.* Knowledge of Clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.).* Experience working with criminal justice population.

This is a full time overnight position.
