Outpatient Coder – 100% Remote

Outpatient Coder Location: Ardent Shared Coding (market, facility or home-based) Employment Type: Full Time Department: Ardent Shared Coding Reports to: Outpatient Coding Manager Who is Ardent?

Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Ardent’s subsidiaries own and operate 30 acute care hospitals in six states with more than 25,000 employees including 1,150 employed providers.

Getting it Right The Outpatient Coder will bring to the table the technical abilities to perform facility coding for outpatient surgical and observation services.

To achieve appropriate and timely reimbursement and data integrity the Outpatient Coder must ensure accurate and compliant application of correct coding principles for hospital outpatient coding.

The Outpatient Coder is responsible for Assigning ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes; HCPCS/CPT codes; and modifiers Maintains at least a 95% accuracy rate Maintains average productivity based on Ardent Shared Coding Productivity Standards Abstracting of required data in the electronic system.

Working applicable edits as needed.

Generate appropriate queries as needed.

Communication of issues to the Outpatient Coding Manager Thorough understanding of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and AHA Coding Clinic Thorough understanding of HCPCS/CPT coding systems and CPT Assistant and Coding Clinic for HCPCS guidelines Thorough understanding of Medicare Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS), Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) Understanding of coding resources and tools.

Acknowledgement of receipt and review of updated Ardent coding policies Maintains continuing education (CE) requirements per Ardent policy Are you ready?

Education : Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course Successful completion of an ICD-10-CM coding class Successful completion of HCPCS/CPT/modifiers coding class Coding/HIM certification required (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-H, COC) Experience & Requirements : 2 years coding experience in ICD-10-CM/CPT; outpatient hospital surgical coding required Computer and software skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, encoder/grouper Strong written and verbal communications skills Critical thinking skills Organizational skills Leadership skills What’s in it for me?
