Home Loan Center Underwriter is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, approving and apply sound underwriting of individual loan requests and products within company and industry guidelines.
Responsibilities includes reviewing financial statements, credit reports, and applicable ratios; evaluating; examining transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness; ensuring that documents are consistent and uphold company and industry guidelines; implementing fraud detection techniques, performing compliance reviews; offer solutions and counter-offers of loans based on lending guidelines; explaining rationale behind credit decision.
May provide work direction and/or training to lower level team members.
Meet targets for productivity, quality and member-partner service expectations.+ Review and audit loan files for completeness and accuracy, analyzing credit documents, including, but not limited to, mortgage applications, credit history and income documents, title documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents.+ Make sound underwriting decisions.
Evaluate debt ratio, loan-to-value ratios, credit score, property valuation and various other factors.
Determining and documenting loan conditions and communicating requirements and/or decisions.+ Adhere to all secondary market and lender policies and procedures, in addition to Federal, State, and/or municipal laws and regulations; including second look policies+ Identifies risks of underlying business practices, underwriting, and/or fraud exposure.+ Ensure loan package complies with all credit union, investor, RESPA, HMDA, Fair Lending, ECOA, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.+ Effectively communicate underwriting decisions and conditions verbally and in writing+ Review conditions of approval to ensure acceptability to investor policies and procedures+ Ensure final DU, loan application, and underwriting transmittal are accurate.+ Identify and resolve loan deficiencies in a timely fashion.
Seek supervisor or management assistance as needed.+ Makes a concentrated effort to provide solutions to loan qualifications and present counter-offer terms when appropriate+ Actively support the decisions and respect the knowledge of supervisors and colleagues by sharing information about the department, business unit, organization and the underwriting industry.+ Participate in identifying potential challenges within the underwriting process and/or department and makes recommendations for changes to improve.Other duties, as assignedEducation and Experience:
· Minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
· Minimum 5 years mortgage underwriting experience; recent experience during the past 12 months required
· Maintain knowledge of all applicable underwriting policies and guidelines and industry rules and regulationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Expert knowledge of mortgage products, industry regulations, and underwriting policies and procedures required.
· Ability to analyze and interpret financial information, including personal and corporate returns
· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced, diverse and growth-oriented environment
