**JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY**BDI APT Molding Engineering Co-opWith direction from the Sr.
Staff Engineer, Molding, the incumbent shall provide a support role in planning and execution of medical device projects for the BD Interventional (BDI) Business.
He/ She shall provide molded plastic part design feedback and be the molding subject matter expert (SME) for cross functional teams as applicable.
This role will primarily support new product development projects with responsibilities for other areas of continuous improvement.
In this capacity, the incumbent must be capable of hanging and setting molds, basic molding processing, understand criticality to maintain timelines, and provide support to the lead engineers on critical path items.
This position works onsite at our Research Triangle Park campus.**JOB DESCRIPTION****RESPONSIBILITIES:**
– Provide input in plastic components, design for manufacturability/mold-ability, design for improved / best in class tooling and scientific molding principles.
– Actively participates on New Product Development (NPD) core teams as required
– Setup & maintain injection molding process
– Perform basic metrology on molded components
– Prepare reports detailing mold operational performance
– Work with personnel and R&D to ensure molded components meet requirements
– Other items as require by manager**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**
– Ability to interpret, edit and correct part drawings, solid models and molding simulations
– Ability to execute scientific molding principles, setup decoupled molding process
– Experience setting up injection molding machines (hydraulic/electric), setting and pulling molds, & setting up peripheral equipment; academic course/lab work acceptable
– Experience with 3D CAD programs (Solidworks, Pro-E, etc.)
– Experience with basic metrology equipment
– Experience assembling/disassembling injection mold tooling
– Knowledge of commodity and engineering grade resins and their properties**RELATIONSHIPS:**
– Internal: Plant molding engineering personnel, BDX molding engineering personnel, product design / R&D personnel, quality personnel and metrology personnel, etc.
– External: Molding equipment (IMMs, molds, etc.) vendors, sales engineers, contract engineers, metrology vendors, etc.**REQUIRED EDUCATION:**
