Northern Star (Pogo) LLC have a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Mine Project Engineer at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a 15 days on, 13 days off, rotational camp schedule.

What’s the role?

The Mine Project Engineer reports to the Chief Mine Engineer, and the primary role is to Support and detail planning for mine and site projects that support site wide facilities, infrastructure, maintenance, operations, construction and other work as assigned.

Monitor ongoing projects/conditions and produce improvement and corrective plans – communicate with partner groups.

Projects may include but are not limited to mine/site facilities, site water handling, tailings disposal, utilities infrastructure and communications networks.

Duties include :

  • Develop, communicate, and implement project designs, plans and schedules for Pogo Mine consistent with safe practices, government regulations, and production targets.
  • Develop and implement project designs, plans and instructions – with iterations, as necessary.
  • Develop and implement work standards and procedures.
  • Develop good working relationships with those on engineering team and operations groups.
  • Present service instructions and project schedules to contactors or mine operations department.
  • Manage and monitor project performance and recommend corrective actions.

Make judgments concerning appropriateness of communications that elevate problems or issues that hinder safe and efficient project execution

What are we looking for?

You’ll be a highly self motivated individual who will display behaviour consistent to our Northern Star Values of Safety, Teamwork, Accountability, Respect and Results, looking to work with the business for the long term and be an integral part in its future growth and development.

The specifics:

  • One to five years progressively responsible relevant work experience
  • Prefer experience and/or training in VentSim, Deswick, Vulcan or other mine design software package.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Must have good comprehension of safe operating procedures, safety rules, policies, emergency procedures, and MSHA requirements.
  • Must pass a post offer physical and drug test, as well as a background check.
  • A Covid Vaccine is required for all new hires as of July 12, 2021
  • Either one round of Pfizer or Moderna, or the J&J COVID-19 Vaccine are required for site entry to all of Northern Star’s US Workplaces.

  • Requests for exemption will be considered on a case by case basis

The Details:

Working a 15 days on, 13 days off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite.

Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.

Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation.

Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms.

Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV.

Cell service is available through Wi-Fi.

The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
