Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is seeking a Flight Sciences (FS) Department Manager to join our Aeronautics Engineering Organization.
This position reports to the Director of Engineering for Aeronautics in Redondo Beach, CA.
This position is responsible for providing the people, processes and tools to meet the current and future FS needs of the Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS).
FS covers the following disciplines and subordinate skills: Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), inlet and exhaust system design and integration, engine performance and integration, loads and dynamics, mass properties, aircraft performance and sizing, and configuration design.

The Manager of FS shall execute the following charter: Provide the technical and people leadership needed to establish and maintain a World Class FS organization across multiple programs.
Work closely with the programs, senior engineers, and section managers to define and implement the department strategies, ensure successful planning and execution of program activities, solicit and fulfill program staffing needs, set performance goals and provide performance feedback, support the annual Salary Review Planning process, plan for future program skill mix requirements, mentor and develop the next generation of leadership, serve as focal point for training needs.
Manage the capital assets and indirect budgets required for the FS disciplines to perform their IPT statements of work.
Provide functional oversight for FS across NGAS including independent technical reviews of major IPTs.
Establish and maintain the FS
– specific processes and design manuals for NGAS programs.
Facilitate and promote Affordability, Knowledge Management, and other process improvement initiatives including the instantiation of metrics covering engineering efficiency and quality, as well as sharing of lessons learned and best practices throughout the organization.
Support the Community of Practice (CoP) for FS disciplines and promote consistency across the Centers of Excellence (CoE) and IPTs in using common tools and processes.

Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) from an accredited institution7 years of experience in one or more of the following: Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), inlet and exhaust system design and integration, engine performance and integration, loads and dynamics, mass properties, aircraft performance and sizing, and configuration designExperience leading large teamsExperience effectively leading diverse technical teamsExperience with Staffing, Metrics and TrainingTechnical management experience in either program IPT, Advanced Systems, technology, and/or functional environmentsMust have an active DoD Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications:Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institutionActive DoD Top Secret Clearance with SSBIPossess technical discipline credibility to provide “backstop” support to programs as required on behalf of team members Northrop Grumman is committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
