JOB DESCRIPTION
A Metal Finisher’s role in the manufacturing process is to ensure the item produced has a smooth, finished surface by grinding, sanding, and filing uneven and rough / sharp surfaces and edges.
Metal Finisher removes dents, scratches and visible defects from metal surfaces using hand and power tools to give the item a smooth polished look.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Determines type of grinding necessary based on blue prints provided
Selects appropriate tools needed to perform job
Operates different hand tools such as belt grinders, carbide burrs and cartridge rolls to finish the metal product
Uses grinders to grind the corners to remove the rough weld from the metal
Uses red wheel grinder to polish metal to blend the welded corners with the table
Applies caulk to the ends on the tables to meet specified quality standards
Moves product to the packing area after grinding is complete
Other duties as assigned
Duties and responsibilities vary based on department
Compliant with company regulatory guidelines and policies at all times
Understanding of OSHA safety rules and procedures
Comply with wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Able to apply common sense understanding to car rut instructions both written and verbal
Able to work independently or with a team
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Time management skills; able to produce at the department target rate
EDUCATION & TRAINING
6 months minimum experience with sheet metal preferred
High School diploma or equivalent
Auto Body training from a technical or high school (certificate in training if possible)
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Experience with using small hand tools both powered and manual
Related experience in grinding, buffing, sanding metal
Auto body repair experience a plus

The employee is occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
Employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
