Material Scientist – Battery (PhD)

General Motors (OEM) is looking for a contractor, battery researcher for a 3 years projectA PhD with electro-chemistry, material science, chemistry or related background with considerable knowledge in lithium-ion chemistry and battery components, especially in interaction between liquid electrolytes and high voltage cathode or anode.Conceive, plan, and execute research projects in the areas of electro-chemical energy storage systems with supervision1-2 years of hands on experience in electrode material and electrolyte validation.1-2 years of hands on experience in electrolyte formulation and optimization1-2 years of experience with design and build battery cells from coin cell to pouch cell.Develop battery characterization techniques, maintain battery testing equipment, analyze and manage data.Considerable skill in electrochemical cell characterization including cyclic voltammetry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and common potentiostatic and galvanostatic methods etc.; three-electrode cells and familiarity with Maccor,LAND, Arbin, Bitrode or other equivalent testing systemsHands-on experience in evaluation of the latest battery components, analyze their performance, and identify degradation mechanisms by using SEM, XRD, TEM, FTIR, NMR,GC-MS, XPS etc.Experience with dry room battery fabrication line preferred but not required.Experience with pouch cell abusing test preferred but not required.Work collaboratively with partnering labs and research groups.Education: PhD in Electro Chemistry, Material Science, Chemistry or related fieldVISA REQUIREMENT: This assignment is a US Government Contract which requires all applicants to be US Citizen or Green Card.
