The Machinist will set up and operate both manual and CNC machining equipment in order to drill, face, saw, turn, mill, grind, thread and bore various parts, materials, and assemblies to precision tolerances and specified finishes.
Job Description Essential Responsibilities : As the Machinist, you will: Set up and operate a variety of machines performing various machining operations from simple to very complex using both manual and CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machining equipment (including, but not limited to
– mills, drills, grinders, lathes, horizontal / vertical bore) Select and grind tools in accordance with hardness, machine capability, and properties of material to be machined Use a variety of measuring devices Use a variety of associated shop equipment and tooling Qualifications/Requirements : High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Minimum of 2 years experience operating machining equipment such as boring bars, vertical boring mills, horizontal boring mills, and other equipment used to support repairs of steam / gas turbines and generator equipment Minimum of 1 year experience reading blueprints Minimum of 1 year experience using precision measuring instruments ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Ability and willingness to work 2nd shift Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, holiday and weekends, as required Ability and willingness to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Desired Characteristics : Associate’s degree in a technical discipline or Trade School Degree from an accredited college, university, or trade school CNC, M and G code programming experience Large CNC lathe, Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM), or Large Vertical Boring Mill (VBM) experience Experience with operating at least two of the smaller CNC machines without direct supervision: Small HBM, Vertical Turret Lathe (VTL), Farrel Lathe Accomplished skills in their trade with experience on power generating equipment Experience using the metric system Additional Eligibility Qualifications : GE will only employ those who are legally authorized to work in the United States for this opening.
