Job Title:Collections Coordinator/HistorianReports To:Curator of Exhibits & CollectionsHours: 20-25 hours/weekSummary: Directs and coordinates the acquisition, cataloguing, exhibition and education of the public about the cars, artifacts, and other items of lasting value within the collections of the Kansas City Automotive Museum by performing the following duties.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following.

Other duties may be assigned.Directs activities concerned with instruction, acquisition, exhibit, storage, research, and public service objectives of institutionNegotiates with administrators of other institutions to obtain exchange of loan collectionMaintains rotating inventory of vehiclesParticipates in preparation and writing of reader boards for current car collectionObtains, develops, and organizes new collections to expand and improve educational and research facilitiesConsults with board of directors and professional personnel to acquire, plan, implement exhibits of institutionParticipates in research activitiesFormulates plans for special research projectsRuns gift shop as needed during Museum hoursCoordinates one fundraising event in support of the MuseumCompetency:To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Design Generates creative solutions; Uses feedback to modifydesigns; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail.Project Management Develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget.Team Work Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; gives and welcomes feedback; puts success of team above own interests.Written Communication Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spellingand grammar; varies writing style tomeet needs.Strategic Thinking Develops strategies to achieve organizational goals; understands organization’s strengths & weaknesses.Planning/Organizing Prioritizes and plans work activities; plans for additional resources; develops realistic action plans.Professionalism Treats others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepts responsibility for own actions; follows through on commitments.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.Education/Experience:Adequate knowledge of Kansas City and Automotive History.Adequate knowledge of make and models of vehicles.Language Skills:Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents; ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints; ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style; ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.Computer Skills:Use of Microsoft Office and basic understanding of databases.Certificates and Licenses:No certifications neededSupervisory ResponsibilitiesNo supervisory responsibilities.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, one is also required to perform minimal retail functions in Museum gift shop.While preforming the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.Physical DemandsThe employee must occasionally lift and/or push up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
