This is a Contract position in Fraser, MI posted November 17, 2021.

DESCRIPTION:

The Furnace Operator is responsible for operating the batch furnaces and supervising the Batch Rackers. The operator must also burn shims and complete paperwork for the batch department. The operator must also rack when required and assist in training all employees, within all departments as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to perform the duties as a racker
  • Operate Batch and Temper Furnace
  • Make adjustments to controls as needed
  • Verify accuracy of racking of product with appropriate fixtures/alloy and racking
  • Perform routine maintenance on the carbon analyzer as required.
  • Burn shims and document paperwork
  • Verify unracking of product following appropriate requirements
  • Assist with Racking and unracking of product
  • Verify completion and accuracy of paperwork/tags within the department
  • Maintain cleanliness and overall organization within the department

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Batch Rackers and all other employees in the department during the absence of the shift supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Additional training needs will be identified during employee appraisals.

Furnace operating:

Trainee will operate under the supervision of an approved furnace operator and must have the recommendation of the training operator and supervisor. Must pass hands on test and a written Level 1 Heat Treat Test or Quality/ Heat Treat Operations Test with a score of 85%.
Hi-lo Permit Test

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, but not required. One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

HI-LO LICENSED REQUIRED

Must be willing to take HI-LO test.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat. Noise level in the work environment is moderately loud.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 – $17.00 per hour
