Primary Responsibilities
HDR has an opportunity for a strategic-minded freight rail leader motivated by great projects and highly technical teams.
The Alaska Freight Rail Market Sector Lead will direct the operations of the freight rail practice in Alaska including leading technical work and marketing.
Specifically, this individual will be an integral part of the leadership team and will be responsible to develop business, manage and deliver projects, be the local freight rail subject matter expert, develop staff, and respond to client needs.
This is a seller/doer position and requires an individual with a strong character of self-motivation, nimble technical capability, and team leadership. Ideal candidate will possess a thorough knowledge of Class I, Regional, and Short-line freight railroads and passenger railroads, including market direction.
The Rail Lead is responsible for partnering with area and regional leadership to develop and execute rail market strategies in Alaska. Duties include managing the assembly of plans, specifications and construction estimate packages for a wide variety of projects (bridges, track, facilities) as well as understanding the planning and environmental process.
The Rail Lead will plan, organize and supervise project work involving a large multidisciplinary staff.
The candidate will have expertise in at least one area of system planning and operations, bridges and structures design, track design, etc.
with a working knowledge of other disciplines and ability to coordinate effectively with other technical experts within HDR’s Freight Rail Market Sector matrix.
The Rail Lead will be viewed as a key individual to serve as a point of contact between the client and HDR and will be responsible for building and strengthening relationships with other state and private entities which may require the rail design services of HDR in the future.
Specific marketing duties include market opportunity assessment, client management, technical and marketing team coordination, staff growth and development, and improvement of technical competencies of market sector staff to meet client needs and market drivers.
