Environmental Compliance Assurance Specialist/Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
This position reports directly to the Compliance Assurance Manager.
The Compliance Assurance Team leads the Assurance, Communication and Training components of the Southern Company Governance Model for Georgia Power Company.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing compliance programs and tools for Environmental Affairs, Generation, Transmission, Distribution, and Corporate Service organizations.
This position collaborates with Environmental Affairs staff to facilitate the execution of the Environmental Management System.
While primarily an individual contributor, this position is expected to direct, coordinate, and oversee activities necessary to complete his / her responsibilities with minimal supervision.
This position is located in Atlanta, GA.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
BS or BA degree in engineering, science (i.e.
biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc.), or environmental management
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental laws and regulations, including but not limited to:
Clean Air Act
Clean Water Act
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
Experience in Environmental Software and Environmental Management System frameworks, such as ISO 14001 is preferred
Experience implementing change management principles is preferred
Customer focused with strong interpersonal skills
Ability to build and maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work through others to achieve desired business results
Comprehensive understanding of Power Generation, Transmission, Distribution and Construction of electric utility operations and related work experience in these areas is a preferred

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensures program environmental guidelines are developed, maintained and implemented
Coordinates media-specific Program Reviews/Compliance Assessments for Generating and non-Generating facilities; maintains associated compliance registries; tracks compliance vulnerabilities and coordinates with subject matter experts (SMEs) and internal customers on corrective action
Streamlines multi-media compliance processes/workflows; process optimization for inspections, recordkeeping and regulatory reporting
Develops environmental compliance training materials including online modules, videos, and quick reference guidance topics include spills, SPCC, waste handling, recycling, wastewater sampling, and similar
Coordinate with regulatory program SMEs to ensure and document that personnel with environmental responsibilities receive appropriate training
Evaluate observations and assess compliance program effectiveness and report to environmental management and business units and to inform the continuous improvement process
Support compliance assessments at Company facilities, as needed
Responsible for management of the Environmental Affairs internal website
Place high priority on workplace safety
Travel Requirements
Travel primarily within the state
Travel expectations will be up to approximately 25%
