The data steward role is a tangible function of the firm’s data governance framework ensuring our data is cared for through its complete lifecycle, as an enterprise asset.
Data stewards partner across the firm to ensure data is created, managed and effectively utilized as trusted enterprise assets which leads to understood, controlled and reliable data.
The specific responsibilities include: Serve as the primary business contact representative responsible for the clear definitions of data, ensuring the correct usage and context of data, enforcing policy/security/privacy requirements and maintaining data quality and integrity within a respective business data domain and/or subject area.
Serve as the primary business contact representative responsible for identification and definition of data in response to regulatory, legal, and audit requests and partner with technology delivery teams to ensure valid and controlled production of required data.
Oversee data lifecycle including operational and administrative management of data and overall data curation for multiple data domains/subdomainsProvide metrics on metadata descriptions from data sources to measure completeness of descriptions and compliance with metadata standards Lead, partner and drive discussions on data definition, taxonomy and classification based on lineage and transfer / business transformation data As needed, lead others in defining and assisting with implementing specific data quality requirements and present metrics documenting adherence and improvements to data quality rules Assist in development and maintenance of business requirements / classifications of data (e.G., retention, security classification, etc.) Help identify metadata-related inconsistencies across business areas and frame resolutionsImplement, enforce, and demonstrate strong understanding of data standards and policiesAnalyze data that does not align with requirements and recommends corrective actions Lead others to and/or lead resolution for data integration and reconciliation issuesPartner with other members of the data stewardship community Partner with regulatory and compliance teams to analyze any impact from regulatory landscape changesCommunicate progress and risks with management, peers and vendors to provide effective interdepartmental and intradepartmental communications May serve as functional lead in technical implementation of agreed upon solutionsAs neededprovide direction as to the effective use of technology within the firm while proactively seeking technical improvements and taking initiative to communicate and implement solutions using this technology, providing leadership and mentoring related to functional and technical aspects of systems development and design, tools, methodologies, best practices and processes and standards that apply to their area of expertise.provide monitoring of activities in applications and tools to ensure that appropriate security controls are maintained and assisting management in the protection of system resources and associated assets.
support multiple, highly complex business processes and serves as a functional leaderQualifications Required in the Job: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education & experience is required with an emphasis in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering or MIS strongly preferred.Minimum of 7 years experience directly related to Wealth Management / Financial Services industry, functional and/or technical area of expertise.
1-2 years of leadership experience preferred6+ years experience in data management, data governance, data quality, master data management, and/or designing and implementing functional systems and data in a structured process preferredExcellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with key partnersExcellent relationship management, interpersonal, collaboration and negotiation skills Motivated to understand and keep current with relevant Industry trends and best practices Strong critical thinking skills and ability to navigate ambigious situations Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environmentAbility to summarize complex information and concepts and clearly communicate up to Senior ManagementAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects along with recurring responsibilities, and adjust to changing priorities with minimal leader input.
