IGNs reviews team is looking for an editor whos passionate about insightful and balanced criticism to lead our coverage of TV and movies.

Based in either the US or UK, youll be working directly under the executive editor of reviews to assign projects to our staff and freelance writers and manage them through to posting on the site and on IGNs various channels.

Every individual writers tastes and styles are different and subjective and we value their distinctive voices.

Were looking for an editor who can balance that alongside maintaining a consistent philosophy of fairness and a relatable tone across the site.

The audience we serve prioritizes geek culture media like science fiction, superheroes, horror, fantasy, and action (and has a growing hunger for anime), so expertise in those genres is highly valued.

That said, theres also room for anything we believe there might be an interest in: suspense, drama, documentaries, family fare, and more are all fair game on IGN and were looking for your help to identify these coverage opportunities.

IGNs editorial team is made up of all kinds of people that share a common love of games, TV, movies, comics, tech, and all things geeky.

Responsibilities

Manage and maintain a prioritized calendar of notable upcoming movie and TV release dates, and make editorial decisions around which properties we should be reviewing for our audience and who should be reviewing them for us.

Strategize with the executive editors of news and features to identify and collaborate on possible breakout stories for upcoming releases whether or not we decide to review a property.

Communicate with studios to secure early access to review screeners (when possible) and participate in junket planning.

Contribute to IGNs reviews voice by writing and publishing reviews of your own.

Work within a monthly budget to assign projects to freelance critics, and work to bring in new voices.

Edit and give feedback on drafts to sharpen writers critiques, encourage them to expand on ideas, catch red flags, and enforce style and scoring guidelines.

Adapt high-profile reviews to video script form and give feedback on draft video versions.

Monitor entertainment review traffic across all IGN channels and continue to assess potential growth areas for our coverage.

Required Skills

Youre an experienced critic and editor with a deep knowledge of movies and television shows.

You have a strongly held philosophical idea of what a review is, what it should accomplish, and how it should convey that to the audience.

You have strong editorial opinions and excellent writing skills yourself, as well as experience in editing and giving constructive feedback on other writers work.

You have the ability to manage calendars and spreadsheets to organize and manage multiple projects at once.

Youre detail-oriented and a diligent fact-checker.

You understand IGNs voice and how to write for our audience.

It would be extra awesome if

You have established relationships with major studio PR representatives.

You have good working relationships with reliable freelance writers and can bring new voices to IGN.

You like to think outside the box and try new approaches.

You have camera presence and can speak extemporaneously on gaming or tech-related topics, in addition to TV and movies.

Youre based in London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or New York
– or can get to our offices in those cities when required.

You can optimize your pieces for both search and organic discovery.

You have a degree in journalism or relevant media topic.
