Overview

SMBC Capital Markets is an interest rates derivatives trading company based in New York City, with offices in London and Hong Kong. We are a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), one of the leading global banks in Japan.

Our Capital Markets business is an established derivatives dealer with a broad product portfolio, with specific emphasis on interest rates and foreign exchange. We have been in operation for more than 30 years and is a leading market-maker in several markets.

Our Credit Group in Capital Markets is looking to hire a new Vice President (VP). Reporting to the Credit Manager, the Senior Credit Specialist prepares credit applications and reviews, conducts financial analysis of counterparties, monitors credit exposure, provides guidance on credit-related matters, manages junior members, and will also handle management reporting.

Responsibilities

• Prepares credit applications for new counterparty credit limits and for the renewal of existing limits
• Conducts credit analysis of more complex financial institutions and prepares periodic grading reviews
• Provides guidance and supports relationship management groups and Marketers globally for derivative credit limit applications and specific derivative transactions
• Monitors compliance with approved credit limits and terms, identifies breaches and escalates to management
• Undertakes other credit control tasks and projects as required
• Responsible for creating management reporting and other ad hoc reporting.
• Manages and mentors more junior members of the team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area. Master’s Degree/MBA will be a plus. 
• 8+ years relevant work experience, including analyzing the credit quality of financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions.
• In-depth knowledge of credit and risk principles, including financial statement analysis and accounting.
• Strong knowledge of capital markets, interest rates derivatives and financial products.
• Familiarity with banking structure, credit policies and procedures.
• Successful combination of personal aptitude, quantitative skills, and strategic and creative thinking
• Excellent communication skills and organizational skills; ability to lead/manage multiple complex tasks while delivering high quality and timely results. Ability to assist with guiding and training junior team members. 
• Excellent MS Excel skills.
