Controls Engineer
– Hydrogen Energy Systems

Position Summary
The Controls Engineer is a critical member of the hydrogen systems team.
This position is responsible for developing and maintaining the automation solutions which control hydrogen generation, compression, storage, and dispensing systems at all Plug Power customer locations.
Hydrogen fueling system performance is largely dependent upon establishing and supporting the proper software programming.
The Controls Engineer helps remotely manage the active fleet of hydrogen infrastructure while optimizing system performance and limiting equipment failures/downtime.
By partnering with the engineering, production, and field service teams the Automation/Controls Engineer will develop throughout understanding of the performance requirements of the H2 fueling systems and continually refine controls to enhance the customer experience.
This role is vital to support Plug Power technology in the field while also furthering the Company’s reputation as the industry leader in hydrogen fuel cell applications.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and deploy software solutions for hydrogen infrastructure systems focused around process control and optimal system performanceProvide leadership when deploying software solutions for H2 infrastructure to ensure appropriate communication and achievement of deliverablesCreate and provide training to users on system interfacing and troubleshootingPerform system tests to ensure that software and automation solutions are effective and reliable both pre and post deploymentContinually engage with H2 infrastructure stakeholders to understand H2 system performance needsCreate and manage methods for data acquisition and interpretation of system dataRefine system automation and software solutions based upon field data and stakeholder inputManage the engineering change process around software releasesDevelop, read, and interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Electrical Schematics as neededRepresent Plug Power in a professional manner at all times and in all interactionsPerform all other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
BS degree in Engineering, Information Systems or other relevant field of studyFive (5) or more years of relevant work history; experience developing automation solutions for field applications preferredPrior experience with gas processing and/or refueling systems preferredExperience withModbus ProtocolPLC Programming
– Ladder Logic, Functional Block Diagram, Sequential Flow ChartsSchneider automation suite (Citect, Vijeo, Unity, Modicon, etc)Allen Bradley (RS Logix, Factory Talk, etc)Data managementC or C++HMI/SCADA ProgrammingVB Scripting
