Competitive Intelligence Lead, VISion

This is what you will do:

Alexion’s VISion (Value, Insights, and Strategy) team is seeking a qualified candidate to join a dynamic and fully integrated commercial strategy team which aligns global commercial strategy, commercial excellence, and new product planning.

The purpose of the VISion team is to drive all commercial recommendations in partnership with R&D throughout the development process and with global markets throughout the commercialization lifecycle of our innovative therapies, ensuring we deliver value for all of our stakeholders: patients, physicians, payers, policymakers.

The Competitive Intelligence (CI) Lead is responsible for translating data into insights and helping to ensure that those insights are leveraged early to shape strategy for both in-line and pipeline products within areas of responsibility.

This person will be part of a growing, highly visible, and impactful team that reports to the Head of CI, VISion. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading competitive intelligence and secondary analytics for assigned products/indications globally, supporting the commercial franchises 
  • Retaining an up-to-date and detailed assessments of the competitive landscape and keeping the organization apprised of latest developments, potential business impact and response plan
  • Working with functional teams to shape the scope, approach, resources, and deliverables to ensure competitive readiness 
  • Being a critical member in the selection/evaluation of potential new indications, clinical trial design, product positioning and messaging, and strategy and tactics that enable competitive advantage 
  • Effectively managing multiple external vendor/partner relationships to ensure high quality and insightful deliverables to achieve business objectives within budget and timeline 
  • Conducting research of disruptive technologies
  • Identifying and analyzing new/clinical programs in existing, adjacent, or new markets and businesses
  • Providing timely information on new developments and data, and partnering with functional experts to create impact assessments
  • Attending industry presentations and events where key competitor data is presented

You will need to have:

  • Scientific Dexterity – ability to conduct secondary research and understand complex topics, often in areas with limited preexisting expertise
  • Industry Knowledge – 4-8 years of R&D/Analytics/ Commercial or BD experience within a related field or equivalent combination of education (Bachelor’s degree at minimum) and biotech/pharma experience
  • Strong project management/tracking skills
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate multiple therapeutic areas concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated track record and ability to drive results as an effective team member and project leader
  • Must demonstrate an energy, enthusiasm and sense of urgency which brings a positive approach to all challenges
  • Strong collaboration, relationship building / networking skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to working ethically and in adherence with all company policies and applicable laws and regulations
  • Ability to travel as required to meet business needs
  • The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment.

    As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to: use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours.

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Experience in competitive intelligence function or similar commercial/ business development function within biotech, pharma, or banking
  • PhD in the life-sciences or MBA
