The Senior Scoring Analyst trains educators to holistically evaluate written, spoken and/or videotaped responses to a variety of teacher and administrator certification examinations.
Responsibilities of this position include preparing materials that exemplify state-specific standards, training scorers to evaluate based on the state standards/rubrics, orienting scorers through an established calibration process, managing scoring sessions, and serving as a content expert in a teaching content area.
This position has the flexibility to work primarily remotely with some on-site work required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan scoring sessions, including selecting sample responses to be used to orient scorers, estimating session length, and calculating scoring pool size.
Create/update training materials as required.
Manage scoring sessions, including training scorers, monitoring their performance, and counseling scorers and Assistant Chief Readers.
Analyze performance statistics during and after each scoring session, taking actions as appropriate to ensure quality throughout the scoring process.
Client Interaction: Facilitate client meetings such as Marker Selection.
Provide assessment-specific training in holistic scoring to client state representatives and other key stakeholders (e.g., EPP faculty).
Host client visits to observe holistic scoring sessions.
Participate in item development activities.
Collaborate with other Scoring Directors, Chief Readers, and Scoring Facilitators.
Provide holistic scoring expertise to Pearson colleagues, project teams, etc.
to support client initiatives and requests.
Understand and consistently apply project standards (e.g., rubrics).
Maintain test security and project confidentiality.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
An advanced degree (Ph.D.
preferred) in English or a related field.
Recent teaching experience (secondary and/or college).
Strong skills in writing, editing, critical thinking, teamwork, and organization.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate small and large group discussions to achieve focused goals.
Occasional travel is required.
